Which blue for the stairs panelling? Go dark or bright? Satin/eggshell

Some of you may remember this hallway when we moved into this property nearly 2 years ago now 😱 and I posted a dilemma about what colour to paint it at the top. Well ee are STILL renovating it (multiple flats in for holiday lets and we live on the GF) and only just got around to working on the hallway.
So we decided for now to keep the red carpet until we get some more ££. But even if we changed it, the expanses of white striped blown textured wallpaper was too much. So.. we decided to replace the old damaged bottom Victorian section paper with panelling..
The images without the stuck on paper samples show the current undercoat colour. It was supposed to be F&B matched Railings but they messed up and I've no idea what colour it is now. It's light though and people family seem to quite like it.
Bear in mind we will eventually replace the red carpet with a neutral one (possible beige).but it has to work with it for now.
It's made such a difference to the look of the hall and feels so much nicer now. I've also sanded the hand rail and painting that as well to match as it was old varnish.
Now I did buy a super expensive pot of zinsser allcoat in the railings in a satin (they convinced me to go satin as doesn't mark as easily) but I tested some on a spare strip and I hate the look of it 😭 was about £80 as well. Should have just gone with matt. Sigh..
The sample papers are F&B off black on the left and top (think this is way too dark!) and a crown After show (kind of a muted mid navy). Those are wall paints so flat matt and I think an eggshell would look better.
I've seen people paint in a brighter blue as well and I guess our house is near the seaside but not sure I'm brave enough to go brighter, ha ha.
What do you lovely people think??

Tani, I’m a bit confused - so the panelling is currently painted in a colour matched to Railings but you don’t like it so you want to paint over this with one of the two colours shown? I really like the panelling as it is and you said you’re family likes it too. Is it just the finish you don’t like?

Oh FFS, this app is stupid. Wrote out a long reply and it just had a hissy fit and deleted it 🙄 sigh.

Anyway, in short.. no that colour is not railings but was supposed to be. Railings is a dark black navy tone. No idea what happened and no idea what colour it even is. It's just the undercoat.

I painted up the Aftershow on some MDF and it looks better than on the paper sample. Ie mid blue navy so doesn't clash with the red carpet. Thinking that might be the safest bet?

Just not sure about the finish as having a sheen will change the look but I need it to be durable and not mark daily 🙈

All the colours are lovely, including the current undercoat. Maybe a bit of overthinking? Here’s the order of the ones I like is 1) the current undercoat. 2) the blue shade (Aftershow?) and 3) the grey. They are all nice. However Ive used Little Greene eggshell and it’s a lovely finish but not that hardwearing as it was water based. Oil based is tougher but stinks to high heaven! If oil based doesn’t give you a headache then it’s worth a shot.

Yes indeed. Think we decided to go with the Aftershow as it's closer to the original but just in case anyone pointed out anything obvious I hadn't thought about, I wanted to wait and check 🤣 it's a lot of work painting 3 flights of the stuff so 🙊

Yes I would use the non water based one for this which will be more durable. If crown do one of course - will have to pop and check.

It's weird as I've used the zinsser cover stain which is a strong one but that wasn't half as toxic as the 123 base coat I've been using!! That knocked me out and that was supposed to be water based. Had to wear a mask which I don't normally bother with considering how large the hall is 😂
