Hello. I'm looking for some opinions about a utility room, in particular a bank of cupboards to fill a run of 4.05 metres.
I've used the Ikea planner with a run of 6 x 600mm tall cabinets with Lerhyttan Grey doors. The primary purpose will be storage - tools will probably take up at least two cupboards, the right hand unit has to house the boiler. The cupboard next to it will contain pipework to the rest of the house so I'm thinking it'll also be good for tall items like ironing board, mops, brushes etc. Which leaves two tall cupboards for general shelving or larder storage (which could include an overspill fridge/freezer.)
My main concern is that an unbroken run of cupboards will make the room look boxed in, whereas breaking it up with base and wall cabinets will lose me space. I have no need for an oven so can't use that to break it up. (I'm okay with the opposite side which will house a washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher.)
The width of the room is 3m, the end window is H 1.6m x W 1.3m The height of the ceiling is 2.75m. I thought initially to get the tallest possible cabinets, so 260cm, but having seen various heights in showrooms, I came to the conclusion that 240cm would help with reducing the boxed in look. Perhaps glass doors (although there won't be anything 'showy' behind them)?
I'd appreciate any suggestions! Thanks.
