Hello, we've just moved into a property and all the doors, frames and surrounds are different shades if brown. We'd love some ideas/tips for making them uniform. Varnish or paint them? Every door is like this. Any suggestions welcome!
Most likely because the same shade of varnish has been used on everything but the original timber products are different timbers. For instances you might have oak, red deal and Sapele. All the timbers are different.
If you paint the architraves and the skirting it will help to unify the whole. I have never understood varnished skirtings and architraves. I think that look really dates a house. A lot of wood turns quite orange after varnishing given time and it's not very attractive.
