Paint colours with Liberty Ianthe curtains

last month

Can you help? I was lucky to find curtains to fit my hall and landing windows in my favourite fabric. Now needing help with paint colours for walls above the lincrusta dado. I’m stuck with a upvc white front door and have pretty much decided that the other doors, surrounds and stair rails and dado will be F and B Wimborne white. I want it to be fresh, and welcoming. It’s south and west facing so sunny but small windows so can be a bit dull on cloudy days. Navy stair carpet, may change in future. Oak floor and handrail. Looking at Unnatural Flooring sisal-look rug with dark navy binding. My daughters have picked out Cromarty, Shaded White, Schoolhouse White and Shadow White. What do you think? At present it’s Dulux Jasmine White which has yellowed, like living in a rice pudding.

If you're trying to choose between those four colours, then you should get sample pots and sample them properly - paint 2 coats on A4 pieces of white card (or bigger bits of paper) and then tape them up on the wall, all next to each other. Move them around the different walls to see the colours in different parts of the room as the light conditions will change how they look. Have the curtains and carpet samples to look at beside the colours too.

If you're looking for a pale neutral, then you should be looking for something that works with the pale bakground colour in the fabric - which is a very creamy colour, almost yellow. So you don't want anything too white. Note that there is no grey in the fabric, so stay away from anything that reads as grey in your space.

Also note that you can paint UPVC doors if you use the right primer and paint - so you could paint that the same as the rest of the woodwork, or choose a bold colour from the fabric.
