Should we put in a Driveway?

parking is becoming an issue, we live on a quiet street but there are a lot of cars.

should I put a driveway in half my garden. Currently have block paving down as a pathway and right under the bay window.

Could we extend the paving as a low cost option without having to re-do the whole front?

what would you do? thanks!

It's not a low cost option, but is worth doing since it will add value to your property. You'll need to contact the council for a dropped curb.

It should be possible. Most units allow an offset which would allow you to have the fireplace either left or right of the existing and still tie in to your existing flue pipe. One thing you will want to do is verify that the new unit you are buying is either compatible with the existing flue or will accept the same size pipe or smaller. This will allow you to hopefully reuse most of the existing chase and avoid getting into exterior framing, siding, and probably roofing work. There are many variables, hopefully this helps.

I agree with the above comment a wooden floor with a rug will get you the best of both world's. Wooden floors are much easier to look after also, I think they tend to last longer than carpets which stain and become worn. If you are starting from scratch with furniture then do for it! Let us know what you choose :).

Hi amfork, I went ahead & put the hob on my island & am delighted I did. I find it really is so much nicer looking out at the kids/my husband & being able to chat to them while I prepare meals as opposed to facing the wall with my back turned on everyone. I put a 4 ring induction hob on the island & put a 5 ring gas hob on counter facing wall. I did this as I have a large extended family & we frequently have get togethers. I want to deal with our massive Energy Bills. I feel a stove in our 50s dining room which acts like a hallway to our galley kitchen would be the answer to our problems. To remodel and insulate our house will cost around 200,000. We might get an inheritance in a few years but until then we are cash strapped. Don't want to waste money putting something in, that an architect might want to rip out. Money is something we will always need to manage. I would love a stove for our unused fireplace. Can I justify it?
