Design Dilemma Furniture Living Rooms

Lounge layout in big room with no wall space

What would you do with this lounge, it's 7m by 5m, with a fireplace on one end, double doors on the other, with windows and doors taking up most of the wall space.
We are keeping the fireplace, but the bar will probably turn into an entryway into the kitchen.
We need somewhere to put the entertainment system and lots of seating enough for 6.
The carpet is as good as gone haha.

Honestly, the solutions are great. We are also now faced with the question of the living room layout. We are considering different options. Thanks for the useful information.

We aren't ignoring you - sometimes it is just timing! We are still stuck in inches over here too, so takes a bit of time to convert. If you need play space and living and dining, then I'm going to suggest you need a built in banquette on the wall opposite the fireplace . . though I would sneak it to within 1600 meters of the island edge and run it for at least 1900 meters or so. That will allow you to place the table 2' / 640 closer to the wall opposite the storage and fire and give you a larger living space remaining . slide the dining closer to the island . . a lot closer. This suggestion came after I first attempted to parallel the dining table to the island and saw what space you have left. Your size dining table is assumed to be the one that is drawn. Or what you hope to have . . when you banquette and slide dining towards the kitchen, that might encourage you to shift the fireplace a bit closer to the top of the drawing . . so it was centered down where enjoying it might also afford a view. I also am unclear about where the front door is - if the top elevation is the glass wall system that will open all the way, you should place the single door that opens by itself on the left. Between the dining table and the glass wall is the area for a play space . . . near the out of doors but away from the kitchen.

Hi there I’m building a new house and need to buy furniture as we are about 12-16 weeks out now. I have struggled with furniture layout as had originally been thinking of a corner couch in the middle or the roof so fire and tv would be visible when you sat down, but I drew it on floor in chalk and all it did was create a walkway around the couch with no real space for anything else - eg additional chair at the back end of the room etc. Felt to me like a waste of space and no function. I seem to have a lot of window and not so much wall to work with and as the ceiling is vaulted at the end where I have the fireplace seems to me would be odd not to orientate the furniture towards that view! I’ve drawn an alternative option in a programme I found online which I set out below with some pictures. The ceiling is vaulted to about 4.5 metres or so at the wall where the plant is in the picture below. Inset fire on that wall and tv on wall opposite over a sideboard. Any suggestions / improvements would be greatly appreciated- many thanks I’m advance!

Hello,

I think a way to your living room layout could be to get a long sofa to go alonside the window wall (possibly a mabular model that you can make a s long as you need), plus few armchais and side tables that could be moved around as and when needed.

This sketch is to scale. the sofa used is 330cm long, which should be enough for 4 people. there are also 3 armchairs and a TV unit opposite the sofa.

I would arrange the coffee table with pouffes that could double as aditional seating or side tables.

How do you like this idea?
