Garden ideas!!!

So this year we’re hoping to finish off the garden. We’ve got a small patio area at the back, we’re looking to replace the patio outside the bifolds to the end of the brick structure, however, we would ideally like abit more privacy as the fence currently is too low. Any ideas? Thanks

You need a modern trellis to heighten the fence so that you can grow creeps right up. If you had a good budget then pleached trees look fantastic and provide instant privacy. Where is your garden access from outside? I would get planting asap as things take ages to grow tall and mature. Try and plant the screening plants while you decide on the patio if possible.

Hey! For the privacy issue, have you thought about adding decorative metal garden screens? We’ve seen loads of people use them to add height above low fences or to create a bit of a secluded patio zone, especially outside bifolds.

You can get freestanding ones or attach them to your existing fence panels. They come in really nice designs that give you privacy without completely blocking the light. Some people also pair them with planters or climbers for a softer look — works great if you want that modern-but-natural vibe.

Put in a few French drains where you dig a ditch and fill it with crushed rock to help the water drain. In low spots put in some drains [http://www.homedepot.com/p/Tuf-Tite-16-in-2-Hole-Drain-Sump-with-Grate-and-Seals-2HDS-4/203463511] with pipe running to the French drain. You might also need to bring in 10 yards of top soil along with some sand to raise your yard a bit as you're probably right at the water table level. We've had to do all this as we live in the Pacific Northwest in a reclaimed marsh [a nice word for a swamp] where we hit the water table if we dig down 3". We had to put down about 10 yards of top soil along with some sand to raise our back yard. We also dug a French drain along the back to connect to the associations drainage pipes through the neighborhood. My husband has put in at least 3 of the drains in strategic locations around the yard to help drain off the excess water. Our yard isn't perfect, but it isn't the swamp it was the first couple of years we were here. We have to apply moss killer every spring or it takes over the yard. My husband also puts down lime to soften the soil, and help the water drain easier. He and a friend rent an aerator every summer and do both our yards to help with the drainage as well.

Hi lots of different options and ideas going on. I had a similar wall and understand how mean it can be to little ones. I bought and put up the expanding wood trellis. This instantly covered the area at a very reasonable price. I then planted quick growing climbing plants. I'm not a great gardener so I cant remember what i had but ask at the garden centre they will advise you. But at least you have a barrier in place to minimize accidents.

hi ,I've posted before, just wondering if anyone has any ideas how to design garden without taking away from the views? we built up on top of a hill, and the view is amazing,I don't want to obscure it when we're sitting outside,can anyone suggest good wind Hardy plants that would suit,I'm thinking lavenders. if anyone has photos of Gardens with similar views that would be great
