Looks some advice on painting in hallway

I’m looking for some advice for my hallway, stairs and landing. Its a 3 storey victorian property. Im planning on dado rail the whole way to top. Thinking of a blue or green colour below dado rail and an off white above with white ceiling. any advice on what will work best. It doesn't have a huge amount of light. Any advice would be appreciated or suggestions of colours. many thanks

It’s hard to comment re paint as the pics make the hall look quite light. I like greens with black and white particularly emerald but perhaps a lighter shade like this with a warm neutral above would work?

I’ve no idea what the colours are like in real life but Dunelm sell very reasonably priced sisal stair runners, most people seem to have fitted themselves too, might be worth a look

@Isla Cherry I received a sample of stirabout yesterday and the new scallop amongst others. Both are lovely!

Gab, here are my thoughts. Have you considered changing your existing radiator to a traditional cast iron one? The floor tiles make an impact and I’m wondering what your plans are for the stair runner? Adding traditional stair rods would look good. Your hallway is light and airy and adding panelling would be in-keeping but think carefully about colours, have a look on Houzz for images that inspire.

I have considered changing the radiator but havent made any decisions yet. i wany to get the painting done first of all. I will probably replace the stair runner after painting and consider the rods. ive painters coming in 4 weeks.

What a wonderful hall looks fantastic. For the carpet I would (budget allowing) use chrome or brass stair rods on each stair would look brilliant in there. You could always get an old or cheap console table & paint it yourself in silver or bronze etc.

Hi there! I have spent several days looking at how to complement the hallway of my new house, right now there is too much white going on. We will paint the stairs white and install a carpet runner with a herringbone patter as the one in the picture. The rest of the house is being decorated with a mix of Nordic, industrial and minimalist style. Im thinking on painting the door frames black but not sure if I should also paint the skirting boards black? Also im looking at painting the handrail, not sure if black or white? Im thinking of complementing it after with some green (hanging plants?) and wall decor ( walnut shelfs or mirror?) Im trying to avoid greys, blues and magnolia colours any idea is much appreciated :) thank you in advance!

I think you need to consider the stair runner and rods in conjunction with the painting. Due to the low light I would keep it neutral. Maybe a greige or biscuit colour below with a lighter shade of the same tone above. Is the black and white floor tiles or vinyl, its hard to tell from the pic. Are you keeping it as its a great neutral base.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes I’m keeping the tiles. Would you suggest a much lighter tone of the same tone that is below. I had blues or greens for below in my head but it doesnt get a massive amount of light.

That's just what I was picturing. I'm hooked on F&B Stirabout or maybe Oxford stone. You could consider painting the skirting the same colour in eggshell. As they are tiles, I love them. LCT not so much. Your front door does let quite a lot of light through.

Thank you all for the advice. Minnie do you know what colour that green is?Does work well with the black and white tiles. I love the stir about and scallop. I’ve a dilemma now. Maybr I’ll get some sample pots.

Minnie that green is gorgeous, also so practical for the lower part of the wall. Glad Stirabout and Scallop have even more fans now. :))

I’m not sure what the colour was. Tbh I was looking for a chequered hall and hoping I’d find a green one rather than looking at a specific paint colour! There are loads of greens around though, definitely get some samples, scallop would work well with some shades of green too

We have farrow and ball - stiffkey blue and ammonite in our north facing living room and they’re a lovely combo, it doesn’t get much light either
