Any thoughts on wall colour, paper or other welcome

Debating what to do on left above charcoal colour panel. The white is too contrasting for me so thinking to 1) paint another colour 2) paint x color for while wall 3) thinking wall paper too even if maybe obl6 on the far wall w hanging mirror. We love the colours but feel they're a bit block type colour and the hallway could use something else. I started w the panelling but feel still it's missing something. May also buy a radiator cover and eventually will have art and photos on both sides. All comments welcome 🙏

Just having the panelling on one side looks a little unfinished. Would you consider panelling the other side? You could paint the white with a light grey like F&B Ammonite or one of the many pale soft pinks that are popular at the moment.

really good point Sonia. Think I'll go ahead and put the panel on the other side. Agree it will look more finished so happy to have another project. Then will work out the colour combo and/or if we want any wallpaper on the far end wall. Thx

Just a quick note to thank you all for sharing your thought, ideas, experience and time. I especially want to thank Bluenan and decoenthusiaste for being with me through the all process for the last 6 months or so..., just wanted to post few photos of the results (https://www.houzz.com/discussions/any-ideas-for-final-touches-to-this-living-dinning-room-dsvw-vd~569586) as I feel it is not only me who created this space but it is your creations as much as mine. It may not be perfect or according to the the "Rules", but it is Me and my family. Each and every piece was chosen by me in different parts of the world and each one of them has a unique story behind. I am very pleased with my space. I love it! I am very blessed. .... and so I am off to my new project now... Back to school.... that's really going to be hard ;) Thank you all, once again.

Daylight on a rainy day in Ireland, ah. The easy thing to do is change the bulbs in the recessed fixtures to the maximum allowed. But this will not help with overall illumination because the recessed fixtures point straight down, not sideways. For that you need to add a surface mount or close to ceiling fixture, meaning new electrical work. Some recessed fixtures can be converted to pendants, by the way. Since it is so dark, I suggest painting the whole thing a nice bright white, including the laminate cabinets. There are many discussion posts on painting laminate cabinets on Houzz. I would paint the interior of the missing-doors cabinet with an oil based white paint, too, to brighten it up. Choose a white that coordinates well with the countertop, flooring and tile. The tile can be changed, of course, sooner or later. With some fiddling, you may be able to adjust the sagging cabinet doors under the sink. These are often much used. If the hinges have seen better days, replace them with identical ones, or swap them with less-used hinges, say from those upper cabinets you took down. It's an old house trick to swap worn parts with less-used parts from elsewhere. Most undersink cabinets can use a coat of white paint on the bottom shelf or Contact paper if paint is not suitable.

I'd hold off painting your table. Do all your painting first. I'm suggesting this because I think it helps to balance the room out to have some of that wood tone on the other side. A compromise would be to leave the top alone and paint everything else. Also. Get rid on any red accents, de-clutter the counter (so you can see your new backsplash and also get some pretty dishes in the blue/green color and put them in the cabinet with the glass doors. Also get new dish towels to hang on oven door handle. Please post some pics when you get done-excited!

As its quite a narrow space I would not use any dark colours. I would simplify it as much as possible. Gallery walls are better viewed from a distance not up close.

I agree with Sonia that you should rebalance by panelling the other side. If you like the darker pallet ( I personally find it a bit oppressive) then go all in to create a moody vibe. I personally prefer the blue you have in the next room to the grey in your hall. I agree with Isla on the gallery wall but again if you go all in and introduce varied frames ( not black) and some wall lights (they have loads of battery operated options including picture lights) like some pictures below. Also, your eye is drawn to the next room which narrows. I would either put a radiator cover or self over the radiator with maybe a large mirror over it to act as an anchor and provide a place to put keys etc.

thank you for the feedback, some great ideas. My gf is on the same page as you and wants us to scrap the dark colour particularly if we have the panelling on both sides. Its true the hallways is very narrow, more so than most flats. We don't like the black frames either so already discussed changing this with varied frames and art work.

Keeping it neutral will make more of an impact when you enter the dark blue at the end. You could try a greige at the bottom and keep the top white. You have some lovely examples to help you. I think a mirror would do wonders to make it seem wider, maybe a better choice than art in this area.
