Budget-Friendly Under-Stairs Cupboard Organization Ideas

Im looking to organize my under-stairs cupboard in a way that maximizes space while keeping things simple and budget-friendly!I plan to eventually install pull-out drawers in a few years, but for now, I'm focusing on a quick refurb that can help me store:
Guest slippers
Kids' shoes
2 vacuums
Steam mop
2 drying racks
I don’t want to spend too much, so I'm hoping to use affordable solutions that work well in the short term.If anyone has tips for organizing a cupboard like this on a budget, I'd love to hear your ideas!If you have pictures of similar projects, please share!Thanks in advance for your help!

Just a quick question. I also have two hoovers but one lives upstairs. Is this possible? I have often had cupboards like this to organise and it's tricky without a custom solution. Could guest slippers go in a basket? You need a low shelving unit from somewhere like Argos, Homebase, any of those DIY stores. Could you separate the kids shoes into string shopping bags per child and hang each one up on those hooks. Drying racks can just be pushed along the side and pulled out as required. You could have fitted shelves but because of the shape of what you need to store I don't think it will be efficient. I would also add some battery lighting like the Ikea Puck to make it easier to find smaller items. You may have already done this.

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

no idea on utility. but what about twisting the kitchen 90degrees. have it all longways so when washing am looking out the big windows not out the smaller one. you still have the island just twist it too and move the cooker to sink area by the wall. island can be for rolling dough when baking bread. that frees up space along the upper wall for built in washing machine dont see how to build a utitly room tho :( put in some in-wall sliding doors so you dont need the big space for living room door opening. use a two piece corner door for the toilet as that surely will be hard having the door and front door open at same time.

Hiya, I agree about the extra bits on the back. I would remove them including the dining room bay but retain the existing external kitchen wall and square it off with the dining room, knocking through to make a kitchen diner. I'll paste my drawing in below. - the dimensions made me think you could create a loo and even fit a shower in the kitchen space but looking again at the photos make me doubt the shower idea! - retaining the kitchen windows and back door would reduce costs - the new downstairs loo area could have a sliding door that remained open when not in use so that the light from that window reached further in - you could fit a roof light above the utility space to draw more light into the remaining kitchen area - it would be tempting to fit bi-fold doors to the new dining room opening but I would research 1930s patio doors in case you could find some more in keeping with the rest of the house - with the same goal in mind, could bricks be reused for the new section of wall required to square off the utility area and dining room? You'd need advice on the dining and kitchen doors area, e.g, a pillar might be required (which could be built into the kitchen design?) so I've just left them as is. I hope this is helpful.

How about some shelves on one side only for shoes and then leave the other side free for the taller items. You could paint all of the inside in white or other neutral colour to make it look a bit smarter. Pull out shelves are great, my sister has them and they weren’t as expensive as you imagined, although she had lots of carpentry work done at the same time.

Store kids’ shoes and guest slippers in stackable shoe racks, fabric cubbies, or labelled baskets. Dedicate a corner for vacuums with hooks or brackets to secure hoses. Maximise the door space with an over-the-door organiser for small items, and use clear stackable bins or baskets for grouping and easy visibility. Label everything for accessibility and to keep it tidy, and choose flexible solutions that can transition elsewhere when you install pull-out drawers later.

IKEA have some tall and relatively thin shelves in their Lack range - my daughter used to have them at the side of her loft bed. When she moved rooms, it was surplus to requirements, so we put it in one of her wardrobes. It has been so useful - she has all her shoes on it, and it takes up little room. It’s helped her to keep everything tidy. (Or as close to tidy as teenagers get!)
