Bathrooms Design Dilemma

shower half wall glass help

I am interested in getting a half wall built in my corner shower. 2 walls solid, Do I need bespoke glass for the half wall and the door to access?
Or can I buy a regular shower door and attach somehow to bespoke glass on the half wall, reducing my costs?
Anyone done this?

Here is an example. They seem popular in other countries but less so here, but i like the look.

I like the look too. Beautiful example. You will definitely need shatterproof glass and I think it has a ratiing. Quite a dreary website but it might give the technical specs you need to possibly have an attractive one made bespoke.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm going to shove the expense and go for full shelves as I will be renting. Cut costs by using mdf sadly alot of messes happen coz I can't be there and have no van to buy materials myself. My wardrobe doors turned out messed up as had a circular route instead of straight lines so they're new but dated. I can't afford it but I'll definitely put up a few eccentric ideas on how to hide it and will look forward to the feedback from that! Thanks

My understanding: You didn't find any problem functionally, but you feel this looks old & need some brightness & change in this. My advise: 1). Remove towel rod, shift it next to tub or behind closet & have full length mirror, which will make your space double & reflect natural light as well thus makes the space more bright. 2). Get couple of plants (small plants or bush type or creepers which doesn't occupy much space on floor but grows vertically). 3). Get some artifacts made from bright colored glass, can flower vase or wall hangings or glass tiles etc, these can be of yellow or Bright Orange color these are to be hung on walls opp to mirror or pasted(3M tape both side glued) if you are using tiles. 4). Get a mat of same color as artifacts & place between tub & closet. these all are easily done by yourself. OR if you can afford to then replace only green tiles & floor tiles if you wish to OR all tiles.

Agreed- you need to get this right with a professional kitchen designer. But in my opinion you should be looking at a wider longer island. I would also block up the door between the kitchen and the front sitting room as I think it limits furniture placement in both rooms.

Looks a bit clunky to me. Glass top to bottom is smarter, I feel. Doing this will be bespoke so you need to find glass partition sizes and build the wall to fit, similar to building a wall fitted with a window. Need a good builder.

Forgot to say shower glass is safety glass so tempered so if it ever shatters, the glass bits stay together, rather like patio doors or windscreens in a car.

I’ve actually done something similar in my last house. We added a half wall in the shower to get that airy, open feeling, and I went the bespoke route for the glass. Standard shower doors rarely fit with a half wall setup since the measurements are usually off, especially if things aren’t completely standard size. What worked for me was having a custom piece cut for the half wall, and then using a regular hinged shower door on top of that, attached with special brackets. It wasn’t the cheapest but definitely looked better and fit properly. If you want a really modern touch, I’ve seen a lot of people start using Smart Glass for shower privacy. It looks super sleek, and you can switch it between clear and frosted with a switch, so you don’t need any bulky frosted film or curtains.
