Hi everyone, I'd like to request some ideas for this random space off our kitchen please. We knocked through two rooms to create a kitchen/diner 2 years ago and that works really well. We knew we would be left with this odd space but thought we'd work it out in time.....turns out not so much. It couldn't be included in the kitchen due to the position of the shower room/WC which we couldn't lose as nowhere to replace. Also it's a good shower for when my 4 and 7 year old boys come in filthy from the garden! I would like the space to be a sort of mudroom/laundry drying space. However, you'll see the many windows and door position means we don't have much wall space so it's very much a dumping ground at the moment. We need: Somewhere to hang garden coats Somewhere for garden shoes Spot to dry laundry on airers Space to put the ironing basket Big windows are on east side and one above airers is south. We have thought about moving back door to where airers are, blocking up window above airers completely (but lose light) but struggling to visualise best solution. Lots of thoughts but no plan. Ideas please? Not too expensive but can stretch to blocking up and rejigging doors/windows. Photos of space inside and out below. Thank you in advance:) Ps. We know the oak dresser is too long but we're thinking of extending the wall behind it a bit at one point. Can't commit to new furniture until this odd bit is sorted.
Have you thought about a vertical radiator ? By changing and moving the radiator to a vertical position, that frees up the under window space. From the views I can’t tell if there is a suitable location for a vertical radiator. A padded bench with storage underneath would sit perfectly under the window.
Extend wall behind oak dresser just enough to create handing space for coats with floor storage underneath for shoes. Ensure open gap to back door remains wide enough for free movement.
kazzh thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately with all the windows and doors there isn't enough space for a vertical (oddly enough the other kitchen radiator is a vertical) and with the window so tight to the WC door I have ruled out the idea of a bench there - a good thing as my brain had too many 'could that work?' in.
Mii2 that is exactly the kind of thing I originally planned but had a complete crisis of confidence so it is hugely reassuring to hear someone else suggest it. We were only planning to bring the wall out by about 50cm to leave nice wide walkway between the end of the wall and the washing machine and not go too close to the WC door so it doesn't feel like a tunnel. You've ade me think I should trust myself- thank you for commenting.
