I don’t think you should make your bedroom smaller, in fact since the dressing area isn’t big enough for all the wardrobes I think there is no benefit to closing part of it off and instead you should open it to the bedroom.

Personally I would make the bathroom big enough for two vanities. You may also decide you prefer a window at the end of the dressing area or in the roof

To answer your question it depends on how much storage you require and how many clothes you need to store. I am not a fan of wardrobes in bedrooms if you have the space to avoid them. I don't think it's a huge amount of storage but does that include shoes, suitcases etc? Are you going to include drawers in the built-ins? You always need way more than you think if only to stop your clothes getting crushed in the hanging space. I think you will need to use the bedroom for storage in addition to the walk in wardrobe. i would definitely not extend the wall outwards as you have shown in your second markup. It spoils the bedroom space. I would pay attention to the lighting now as you are building. A wardrobe where you can't see what you are doing is very annoying. I would also plan lighting inside the wardrobes.

If you went with Jonathan's great suggestion of the wardrobes all the way along the outside wall then you could have a chair in the corner and a full length mirror on the right hand wall outside the en suite. Or you could fill the walls with shelving for shoes or handbags or anything smallish that you might need to store. Think about overflow bathroom storage too.

Firstly the walls are already built (but not plastered or anything yet). So if I can avoid moving the ensuite wall also then I will.

But I love the double sink idea.

Knocking the doorway between bedroom and WIW might not be as big of a job to do to create the wall of wardrobe. Maybe this is a neater job of all doors on wardrobes rather than half with them and half without them either side of the wall.. plus a swinging door in the way!

I think 3,5m will be enough for a shower and double vanity. Have a look at the size of shower trays (assuming you are having one) and see what widths are available. You could also tank the area and use the whole space with a floordrain and a shower screen. I would allow 800mm to 1m for the width. Have a look at double vanity units or maybe a website like Tikamoon for ideas as they do freestanding double vanities with integral or separate basins/bowls. This will give you an idea of dimensions required. I would knock the little wiw doorway and think about lighting at this stage. Led strips for the wardrobes at the least. Think about back lighting for bathroom mirrors, You could also have a socket for a floorlamp as getting dressed with insuffient lighting is not ideal. I remember groping for stuff in unlit wardrobes years ago. No fun in winter. Of course you could always have your full length mirror in the bedroom where the light is brighter (not facing the bed) and use the outside ensuite walls for storage.

I think it comes down to having doors on all the wardrobes vs a WIW corner with no doors... to be honest walking by the open storage everyday to get to the ensuite might drive me crazy if it gets messy so maybe the traditional wardrobe doors will work better. So I may as well knock the wall then and plan for mirror/ensuite storage etc as discussed.

You will likely leave 900 for the shower meaning you have 1750mm to fit two sinks. Of course this is possible but I would still make the bathroom bigger while you can.

Agree about having doors on your wardrobes. Unless you have minimal clothing in muted shades and are very tidy it can look a mess exposed.

I am not a fan of WIW’s without doors. Dust collectors and messy. I would go for a full run of wardrobes but introduce some clever lighting automated to the doors. I would keep the bathroom with the smaller footprint but like the idea of a double sink which you could fit I think without moving the wall. I would do something like this.

and create his and hers walk-in wardrobes.

and have entrances to the bathroom through each.

The previous configuration is problematic if one person is in the wardrobe getting dressed, and another is passing through. Blocking the passage in a way.

I think this gives you better flow and more defined areas and symmetry.

Old thread but adding my experience. 2.1m x 2.4m felt impossible at first. Thought two people could not share that space without feeling cramped every morning.

The Heritage Wardrobe Company did a 3D drawing before cutting anything. Seeing the layout on screen changed everything. They put short hanging on one side wall, long coats on the other, and kept the middle completely clear. No drawers needed. The visual proved the space worked.

Light was the other issue. No window in that room. Installed motion sensor LED strips inside the hanging rods. Now the space feels bigger than it is.

Walked into the finished room and could not believe it was the same measurements.
