Paint or wrap or rip out? Child's bedroom dilemma

last month

This has been my little boy's bedroom since we moved in. The fitted furniture is actually solid and better quality than the aesthetically pleasing free standing types. It's actually a double bedroom and I intend to redecorate this for him but very indecisive about the furniture. It's practical but very dated. We will be selling this house in the next five years and I'm also thinking it'll be off putting for potential buyers.
Idea 1- rip out the over-head cupboards as these are the most dated looking. Paint the remaining furniture white or sage green with updated handles
Ideas 2- as above but wrap the remaining furniture (would have to pay a company to do this but may give a nicer finish) no experience of this before though.
Idea 3- rip everything out. May give the room a larger feel. Invest in free standing solution.
All ideas welcomed! 😀 Thank you

It is a more traditional style but I don’t thing it’s that dated. Is it made of wood? I think removing the over bed units would certainly lighten it up. I would also turn the bed around so it’s against the adjacent wall, with either the head facing the window or the feet. Then you can move the little unit and toys in the gap between the wardrobes and the bed to neaten it up. Painting the units would certainly freshen them up with possibly new units. A Houzzer recently showed her painted wardrobes and they looked fantastic. White is good as it will sit well with most decor. Wrapping is becoming popular but it’s not cheap. It’s quite an art to do it properly by a professional with good hardwearing vinyl. My sister had her laminate worktop wrapped (approx 3 metres) and it took several hours to do and cost £300.

I agree with Sonia. Remove the overhead wall cupboards. This will make the room feel much more open. I did this with my dated built-ins - made a huge and positive difference.

I would remove the wall cupboards over the bed for starters. It's bad feng shui to sleep under anything hanging over your head. I also think it looks dated. I would repaint the remaining wardrobes a better colour (light grey maybe) and change the handles. I would skip the wrapping as you are planning to move in 5 years anyway and one room is unlikely to be make or break when you sell. I would look at a more modern freestanding chest of drawers as although well made it also looks very dated. For the cost of what you have saved on the wrapping you could buy a decent oak chest of drawers which would add a bit of scandi to the room. You could also ask the room's owner what he would like or is he too young for that? Think about a future desk position so flexible furniture is better.

Updating the existing furniture you have is a budget-friendly way to improve the space. There are some amazing DIY things you could do, including a small change to the fixtures and perhaps adding in a rug. I agree with Isla in the sense that nothing should be above when sleeping so if possible, remove those
