Cubby hole in son’s bedroom

Hi, does anyone have any ideas of what to put in this space in the fireplace please in my 11 year old son’s grey bedroom? Something funky to brighten it up. It used to have shelves, I thought about a unit or even a nice plant but wondered if anyone had other ideas - currently it’s a dumping ground for clothes so would like to use the space to avoid this!! 😀 it’s 64cm x 70cm at the narrowest points. He is into basketball, football, gaming so not sure if there is something themed that could go in here. The whole wall needs pictures/clock/wall hangings or anything so any ideas very much appreciated as the final touches are not my forte!

    Is this the grafitti room? is the paper up?

    Just thinking about a shelf with a graffiti letter/name or gamertag etc to personalise


    Personal experience, i’d let your son choose although mine is particularly fussy!

    Thank you - it’s all very bland and boring at the moment. The cubby hole is 64W x 70H x 35D.

    Hi, yes it was meant to be the graffiti wall and my son had a change of mind, hence the blandness now!

    The fireplace is 144cm. I have a couple of pictures to put up but there’s so much wall space and I am not good with accessorising - I tried to convince him about the graffiti wall but he just completely had a change of heart and now we’re stuck.

    what about a giant personalised footballer stencil on the chimney breast, with one like this you could put his favourite ball in the hole?! You can pick colours for his favourite team too

    I’d add art over the bed and perhaps shelves over the desk for the games?

    I searched on Pinterest for 11 yr old boys bedrooms and there were tons of ideas! Have a look. I love Minnie’s football stencil!

    We had stencils in his previous room, I hadn’t thought about it for this one. Yes that’s a great idea!

    As before if you went for a footballer i’d add a football in the fireplace, you can get display cases like this one which fixes to the wall. There are some nice footballer stencils. Alternatively you may be able to find a basketball player and add a basketball instead as he’s already got the net on the door

    If you ask what he wants I can take another look. i know mine would have used it for display of his trainers…
