Daughter's Bedroom
Hello Houzzers!
Would really appreciate some input regarding my daughter's bedroom please... We are going to be extending our house downstairs and remodelling upstairs and I've come a bit unstuck on my daughter's bedroom. This is the current floorplan and it's the bedroom on the top left of the drawing. It currently has a built-in cupboard and we'd like to take that out and incorporate an ensuite including a shower if possible.
This is the current layout of the room.
I've wondered about doing something like this with the layout but it all seems rather tight... the bed is rather large for a single, I wonder if we could get something a bit smaller, but just can't work out how to fit it all in. The door to the en-suite will be a pocket door to save on space, and the 700mm wide cupboard could go the other side of the en-suite, so the en-suite pushes up to the end and the cupboard goes next to the landing... but either way it all seems rather tight.

I agree with Black and Milk for the location of the en-suite, I think it would make the room tight, but it would work.
I've put a small plan together for you as I think you could explore putting the bed down at the end of the room with some built in drawers underneath to help with storage. Also one of the drawers could pull out for a small bedside table - which I think you would want.
The red area could be built in wardrobe (around sloped ceiling), or chest of drawers, which might work best for the storage you need. I have attached a couple of photos! I really hope this has helped. Jessica

Comments (9)Firstly, get matching beds and put them end to end so the 6month old is closer to the door for checking on in the night. If you need a changing unit in the room then it could slot between the beds. I'd like to see pics of the wardrobe and the radiator wall. I'm imagining it is probably in an awkward place like smack in the middle of the wall ; D. How about getting a radiator cover and then above that making a shallow bookshelf for their smaller books, special toys and a few photos. Then I'd have matching wardrobes either side to store everything else! Décor - not sure if you're thinking that far ahead yet but I'd paint all the walls white to keep the timber from looking too yellowy (I doubt you've got time to be painting furniture!) get matching bedding for both beds, a wall decal (inexpensive and easy to change as they get older or if you sell the house) in pink, a basic white drum shade for the light (IKEA) and a set of pink or white eyelet curtains and pink tiebacks. So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. 2 months agoCould you split the window and partition the right third and put the shower room next to the bathroom for ease of plumbing? The zig/zag wardrobe space between the two left bedrooms given over to your daughters roomand a new entrance.

Thanks Katlucy - that's an idea I hadn't thought of... very interesting, thanks. The difficulty with this is the way the window is at the back - see top right.
