Love the peacock colour - really stands out. No.1 choice from me.

I really like the peacock too. I was close to ordering it a few months back but decided against it only because of my brick colour. With your red brick I think it will look very smart.

I know the feeling as I swing from soft to vibrant colours at the drop of a hat!

Just about to say goodbye to our peacock blue/green front door but will miss it as it’s such a lovely colour. Highly recommended to lift your spirits. Do you have a front garden at all as think that can make a difference…soft lavenders etc would go nicely with a light pastel colour door. Also, shady or sunny? Deep colours are more likely to fade in the sun whereas rich or bright colours are good for holding their own if north facing or in shade.

I think style wise they all look super. And I love confident colours against red brick. In fact I love this yellow.

Just from what I’ve seen I think the last one sits well with your house and garden. I do also like the peacock though, maybe a bit cheerier on a drab day

Thank you all for your brilliant comments. I drove round the roads in town to see what others have done. Fantastic examples. I love the house number etched in the top glass that a lot of people have so that’s a definite. My current door is painted in F&B Cooks Blue so I think I like bold colours. The front is NE facing so bright sunshine in the morning and then shady later on. Lots of bluebells in the front garden in the spring. These are old, not very good, pictures of the old door.

Good idea to drive around. Cute doorway. I’d go with one of the greens or peacock and have the whole thing (frame and all) in the same colour like your last photo. No need for the white round the edge. That will also make the doorway appear a little larger I should think.

I feel your pain! I really like your current door colour. You actually recommended my current door colour of a Little Greene Celestial Blue - photo below. It now needs redoing and although I love it, I’m half tempted by the lovely yellow that Jonathan suggested. Good luck - let us know what you eventually choose!

I think black front doors are massively underrated. I don't know if you can repaint composite doors sucessfully or if its a "colour for life". Mine is composite, colour charcoal and I am attempting to repaint it but not sure if its going to work. I'd chose a hardwood door everytime, even for a modern property.

My neighbours have both painted their composite doors, previously white, using Frenchic Al Fresco paint. Five years later and they still look splendid! One’s pink, the other a rich yellow… I’m seriously tempted to paint ours, currently charcoal, turquoise.
And I agree, Sonia, it looks very smart to have the house number ‘reverse etched’ in the top light - our three also have a clear border to the top light.

Sarah US I remember! I usually like a change when painting or replacing. Yes that yellow is gorgeous. I’ve even thought of pink or lilac but OH isn’t keen!

Isla my sister has a black door with chrome fittings and it’s so smart. Another one for the list!

Jen I agree the etched number is very posh. The door fitter said he can do that for us.

I chose a (near) black door with a black door frame - it looks quite smart. It enlarges the door a little, I think.

Sonia, as others have said you have great taste and a wonderful eye for colour and you’ll come to the right decision eventually so take your time.

I considered a teal for my recently purchased composite front door but also wanted the surround in teal. I bought from Hallmark Doors and Panels and whilst you can have any RAL colour you want, they only have a limited choice of surrounds and teal wasn’t one of them. On the Hallmark website you can choose any colour, add a photo of your house and see how it looks as your own front door.

In the end we went for RAL 7016 anthracite grey - it matched our roof tiles, went well with the brick and looks smart - with no white paint in sight!
Does Solidor sell surrounds in all colours? Something to consider if you don’t want white.

On the RAL chart I’m hoping you’ll have a look at RAL 5020, 5021 (teal colours) 6033 and 6034 (turquoise colours) and give your thoughts.

I like that Sonia. It’s a bit less ‘in your face’ than the peacock that I said I liked at the start of your post.

Betty Boo the door company I’m going to use do Hallmark as well as Solidor. He’s coming on Monday so I’ll discuss the surround colours because I am easily confused 😊 Solidor do limited surround colours and of course none are Twilight Grey. I’ll have a look at Hallmark website.

Ispendl they are all lovely colours but I agree with you that this is softer. No doubt I’ll change my mind tomorrow! Thank you all so much.

Oh one thing Sonia, get a barrel lock inside so you don’t have to lock with a key.

Sonia, what colour is your hallway? The doors above all look great so I would choose a colour that works with the interior hall, assuming the door will be the same colour on both sides. I’ve seen the cool blues in coastal areas and they look stunning blending in with the sea. The first turquoise would brighten up your day coming home! Though I also love a classic black door.

I think no.2 would suit a red brick nicely - a calm door colour but also bright. Its a colour that is hard to get tired of and keeps the house looking cheerful.

What colour are your windows? If white I think you can get any colour door and it would look great.

We have the same issue as Betty Boo- they don’t do surrounds in the same choice of colours as the door. We plan to have our caramel oak windows including bay sprayed to match, but the door is such an expense I don’t want to get it wrong.

Hi macbroom, my very tiny hall is painted pale grey with a very colourful striped carpet. Inside will be white. Im getting more and more drawn to Twilight Grey (see below). Decision day tomorrow!

Grainne do you mean number 2 in the original post? Lovely soft shade but I’m getting more drawn to bolder shades. Making decisions are so hard for me. How do people remodel a whole house I’ll never know! 😊

Loki the windows are white. I’ve spotted a lovely front door in my road in a blue and it does look lovely with the white windows. Front doors are so expensive. I’ve been quoted £1995 so far but got another chap quoting tomorrow.

There’s so much choice it can be hard to make a decision! Twilight Grey is also lovely but more subtle/muted rather than bold. They all look good which makes it harder to choose so it’s down to personal preference. Good luck!

The Twilight Grey looks good. I’m sure you will like it. But before you make a decision just satisfy yourself that it isn’t too similar to your existing door. When spending a lot of money it’s difficult to get something that feels different, new and and an upgraded when your instinct is to make a choice you are also comfortable with.

One possibility could be to postpone your decision and paint your current front door a different colour to see how you feel about a different colour.

Yes Jonathan it is very similar to the current door oh dear! I can’t do any painting anymore due to arthritis but that would have been a good idea. I’m seeing front doors in my sleep! 😊

Get a wooden one. You know you'll want to change the colour regularly. 😁

You don’t have to buy a whole new door to get extrusions around the frame to block drafts. A good carpenter can also install those

Grrr… it’s frustrating when tradespeople don’t turn up… and most especially when you’ve done so much preparatory thinking!
