Cover it in MDF and paint it or if you don’t want to bother painting it then cover with MFC. Make it to the same shape and size and buy some logs to decorate where the fire would be.

Start by removing the tiles and cleaning up the fire chamber

I would remove the tiles and see whats underneath, if there's nothing too exciting I would do something like this. You might be able to find a nice frame on facebook marketplace, ebay, gumtree or maybe an ex display one!

You can either tile or paint the inside and thn add plants, candles, a stand with logs on (for display purposes only), you could also dress it by the season so with autumn approaching pumpkins, halloween decor, autumn colours, leaves etc!

    hope this helps

I had a similar fireplace which I absolutely hated. We removed it, cleared out the rough bricks within, cleaning the ones we had left. We then bought some sandstone paving to create a hearth (not expensive - about £25 - from a paving company), we then bought a natural pine surround and painted it white. The surround was £99 from B&Q but you can buy secondhand for less. From then you can add candles etc, but we chose an electric faux log burner which you can buy from about £80+ but of course you don’t need to. I also like when people tile the hearth and the inside if it’s not being used for a fire. First pic is our budget fireplace!

Tile paint and candles if budget limiting. Removing surround will mean some replastering and then you might as well open up the space as in Sonia's second picture. Tiling is not essential and you can use the space for anything.

Looks like you have just finished on tackling wall paper. Have you had a chance to give the tiles a good clean to remove the black marks and grime? A good clean will give you and idea of if you want to try to do something or if it is a remodel job.

Cheapest option would be to paint all the tiles to match your room
