Under wall cabinet sockets

Hello,

I am trying to find plug sockets that would be affixed to under the wall cabinet in my kitchen (so that they dont intrude on the splashack). I have seen these quite a lot in other countries however can only find one brand that provides these in UK (Knightsbridge).

Has anyone come across any brands/suppliers of under kitchen cabinet sockets? Anyone have experience of these in the UK?

Thank you. The pop up power sockets seemed a bit gimmicky/unstable however I’ve never seen these in situ. Will explore how these can fit into the wall cabinets.

Silly question, I wonder if the desk-top sockets you see in offices would work?

We just painted a color called "Latte" over the dark red walls in our place and we keep thinking that someone left the light on! It adds that much light to the place as the red was just sucking out any light in the place. Find a color you like more for that wall and repaint...and/or maybe add a ceramic tile backsplash? It will make it feel brighter in there immediately as you will get a lot of light reflection. I love the idea of sage green with your cabinets.

You can paint cords and plugs the same as your wall color. This would allow for a decorative glass vessel to hide the cords or anything else to hide the cords. Another option might be a slender bifold screen--if you can find one in the right proportions. Maybe even take two long skinny pic frames and attach them together with hinges.

Thank you soo much for your compliments. It makes me happy as we did everything ourselves (took a while since only had sometimes time during the weekends). id love to see your kitchen as soon as you have the bodbyn installed. What colour countertops/backsplash, floors do you have? can buy a small “tester” can/container and try it. Can always be painted over. we really dont have much exposed wall directly next to the cabinets... except for the 15”deep (island against the wall). we have large opening above that “breakfast” counter to the family room (so as we sit we can watch tv that’s over the fireplace.). That room we also decided to paint the same as the kitchen. would have been too tight to have an island in the middle of the kitchen.

I never thought of that. It's a small room, I'm going for wooden floors throughout the whole ground level to make it flow better. I haven't decided what type either! I love limed oak floors but I'm in Ireland where it's damp a lot, so something that doesn't show up the dirt.

Would love to know if you can find any. We had them in previous kitchen in US and they were great for occasional use - no point if your toaster is going to sit out all the time though. For new kitchen in UK we are not going to have any wall sockets around the hob area as I'd rather have none than have them visible on the backsplash! Most small appliances will be hidden in butlers pantry though, and the more occasional items will be plugged into sockets on the island. I personally don't like the pop-up sockets as they take up space in the unit they are housed - and are also still quite an ugly intrusion on the worktop.

Thanks you Sarah, something like that but i would worry about liquid spillage on the counter to be honest.

Thank you CWD, I will also have a pantry so can corral most prep appliances there. Have had a chance to look at the pop up sockets, and i am unsure of the longevity of these.

This is the only brand i have found that provides under socket switch units:

Alternatively, I have now found some brands that provide socket housing so maybe i fit a few of these and then fit in standard sockets:

They're pretty clunky compared to the US products - but US plugs are much smaller so maybe it's to do with our huge plugs, the sockets just can't fit neatly under the wall units. You might be better just installing a regular socket on the underside of the wall unit and accept that the box for it will protrude into the interior of the unit - if that's allowed!

Hi CWD, yes I agree, fairly chunky. I am hoping the pelmets will hide it mostly. I guess an alternative is to install the standard wall socket horizontal so it’s attached to under the wall cabinet itself… will speak to the electrician on options.
It seems odd that this is available in America but not here, I wonder if there’s a reason that I am missing?!

Hi,

I tried a couple of options.

I initially looked at using a double gang angled pedestal box. However the pellet didn’t hide them well. I also found that you have to be careful as to the size of the pedestal box as most of the sizes are it for domestic use eg use in labs etc.
These seemed the best ones but could still see them;

In the end I installed what I mentioned above ie installing a regular socket under the wall cabinets flush horizontally. This does give me a clean line of sight as the socket is hidden by the pelmet. The con of this is that if you are tall you will need to bend down to plug in.
Have had them in place for under a year and use them occasionally; so far no issues.

Have taken a couple of pictures that hopefully show what I mean. One is dead on with the pelmet showing no plug, the other is from slightly lower angle showing the plug. Hope that helps.
