Hall, landing and stair case part colour

Hi all, I'm looking for some help re a paint scheme for our hallway / stair case / landing its a big space but dominated by an Oak staircase that we would like to leave as it, I'm just having real issues in finding a colour that works with all the wood that isn't just an off white? Any thought much appreciated!

    How about a taupe shade for your walls,something like F&B Purbeck Stone or Elephants Breath, although I do thinktamp75’s example is lovely.
