I have a long, very narrow hallway which is dark. Any ideas please?

There are a few things you can do.

1. Create a focal point, a simple way of doing this is using paint on one end of the corridor and the ceiling.

2. Lighten the space with a more reflective paint colour and Increase the lighting in the space with a mix of pendant lights and wall lights

3. Add a mirror to reflect natural light into the space.

4. Embrase the darkness with some rich dark tones.

Are you looking to finish the piece or leave the wood as is? Consider painting the back of the cabinet an accent color....maybe green or red? Is this off a kitchen or living room....what room is it closest to? The reason I ask is if it is close to the kitchen the obvious accessories are plates etc. A wooden bowl with either pine cones or wooden fruit, lemons? pears? Any pics you put on the shelf would have to be small, so I am not sure of the impact they would have. It would be cool to use a panoramic pic and hang at the back of the shelves. What about a picture of the farm? Antiques repurposed- these spools could be painted fun colors.

Hi, I have the same problem in my hallway. If your budget is tight, just replacing the ceiling light with something like a starburst pendant with at least 6 bulbs would instantly improve the space. Also I would hang some bold and bright artwork on the walls and put a runner on the floor. Mirrors are also great for your space. I'm attaching a photo example. See how the eye is instantly drawn to the bold door? Also if you can repaint the wall, I would recommend you to use glossy finish paint so the light can bounce off the walls too. Hello nicnoll, Another idea could be to have a wall light that is all about the bulb! A few links to both ideas.... Copper is good too... One other idea... have a rose with multi flex wires... centralised where the current one is.. Then choosing cable/flex and lengths.. run them along to where you want.. either along ceiling.. in loops with hooks to loop round and fix position, so then excess becomes a drop pendant to add something lovely.... Or you run them in loops across the ceiling to the opposite wall and have a wall light fitting but the electric cable comes from the one ceiling point. So less to do wiring wise.. Some great ideas there. I was looking at the niche on the left is it a closed off window? If you have some nice items to display you could put in some glass shelves and add some lighting above or down the sides - LED would work well.
