Hi there,
Another one from me - I keep seeking input on things!
I'm halfway through a loft conversion - going to be 2.2m ceiling height. Basically because I have soundproofing in the ceiling it turns out I can't use recessed spotlights so I have a tossup between surface spots and a flush/semi-flush ceiling light. (Too late to introduce wall lights, although this would have been a good idea). Any opinions - competing two products below.
The spots are a little weird looking but may turn out better with the low ceiling? Not sure. Rest of my house is modern victorian vibes for context.
1. Arcchio Nieva downlight, G9, black, round | Lights.co.uk (6.5cm height)
vs
2. Mombasa Industrial Flush Chandelier, Three-Arm | Mullan Lighting (20 cm height)
They look good but I don’t feel black would a good option if the ceiling is white. They’re just a bit too in your face. Do they come in white?
I prefer the chandelier out of the 2 options. Or look for white spots as Sonia suggested if the ceiling is white. For reference, there are also some nice plug in wall lights around. You could also use a floor lamp as well as table lamps to layer the light
i had a similar issue with my basement (wasn’t enough room for downlighters to comply with fire regs) and had to have spots. i’ve just come across this, not sure if I’m interpreting use correctly but may be worth a chat with your electrician/builder and blame me if im wrong lol!
We didn't want spotlights in our loft and we have less height than you. In one room (office) we went with something similar to number 2. Check there's enough headroom for the tallest house member (for us there is about 5cm between my head and the bottom point of the fitting ). And in the bedroom we have a glass pendant which comes down to my shoulder but because it hangs above the bed it's no issue as you can't walk into it. It was something we deliberated over at the time and i'm glad we went with pendants rather than spotlights, doesn't look odd even with the low height.
Light 1 look ok but personally i'd select ones you prefer the look of subject to your headheight and bed position
thanks everyone...
what i didn't realise is that the electrician has already first fix wired for spots so - i think my dilemma was moot! i'll take a look and see if white ones look more discreet
