Roof terrace - wooden privacy screen?

Hiya

I’m in the middle of a construction project which includes a small roof terrace in London.
Does anyone know where/how I can get hold of a wooden privacy screen / trellis / fence which will likely satisfy building control? If I suggest it to them will they laugh in my face? Currently I’ve got a 1.7m frosted glass metal privacy screen on the plans, but they’re so ugly….

Something like one of these. I’d be happy with literally a trellis fence but i have a feeling building control will not consider that safe. It’s part of a loft conversion so one floor up

please let me know if you have any ideas, experience, or leads!

I think if you are going to try to get permission to vary a plan it would be more likely to be supported by planning if use a material that they have already accepted elsewhere….. is this wood slating used elsewhere on your streetscape?

We originally submitted it as slatted wood, but it got changed to frosted glass following an objection from my neighbour about overshadowing.

i actually think she’d be less dissatisfied with it as a wood though as frosted glass is so ugly. So idea was to run it by her before i put it up. I know i’m technically obliged to follow to the letter on planning, but if building control sign it off, she is literally the only person who is going to care what the material is. so if she is happy with something wooden then that’s what i’d prefer to go for, in short. just want to find a viable option to present to her.

(the precedents we drew upon were a mix of frosted glass and wood to answer your question. i did pop round to my neighbour to ask where they sourced their wooden fence from but turned out they hadn’t started construction on their approved plan so that didn’t help me)

i know this was three years ago but did you ever find a solution that wasn't a massive ugly glass privacy screen? currently in a similar position trying to find an alternative!

Im afraid not. I’ve had the frosted glass for 3 years, my difficult neighbour moved and im currently getting the frosted replaced with clear glass instead. so a solution of sorts, i suppose.

Oh hang on! i did look into it and building control were fine with it, it seems (unlike my neighbour).

thanks, i'm in wandsworth, who seem particularly strict, even though I don't see how frosted glass fits with the rest of the building or looks particularly 'lightweight'! were you able to find a supplier easily enough? most balustrade companies only seem to do standard 110cm, not 170cm.
