Kitchen lighting dilemma

Hi Houzzers, would like your advice again please. This is a computer image of our new kitchen, except the new extension has a pitched roof and skylight windows as I've tried to show (please excuse my poor computer drawing.
Due to a combination of problems involving sky lights, steel beams and hob extractor fan we are opting not to have any pendant lighting above island. We hope there will be sufficient light from the spots.
To add interest I would like feature lighting against the back kitchen wall. Initially though wall lights, but now considering low hanging pendants..... what do you think please?

Hi Ruth, I think both ideas could work. Important is to have those lights on a separate switch so you can change the mood in your kitchen. It is sometimes nice in the evening not to switch the main light on. I would also consider instead of spreading this 4 pendant lights evenly, do just a cluster of 3 or 4 in the corner where you will make most use of your worktop. There is also a way to have a pendant light above your island. It is a battery operated rechargeable wireless pendant light. I hope that helps

I'd choose wall lights since they can sit closer to the wall than pendants. Don't want to be banging your head into them 😉

Hi Louise, Lovely new kitchen, such a lovely bright space too. I would suggest going a couple of shades darker than the kitchen furniture colour so you get a contrast to the furniture and flooring. This will help keep it on a neutral palette so your other furniture and accessories are not competing with too many colours. Also as your room as so much natural light you can go for a slightly stronger wall colour and it will look superb. the photo below shows a very cool grey wall you could go for a warmer grey but it give you an idea of what you could do. Painting the walls can always be changed relatively easily, so if you want a change after a few years you can and it's a lot less costly than a new kitchen! I suggest that you use the 12 tiles you have and like in some arrangement as a stove backsplash. You might need to use white tiles or tile strips in between your own tiles to make a pleasing arrangement. Use white tiles to complete the space behind the stove and the other areas where you want to have tile.

Hey folks I think I have gone a little wrong in my kitchen lighting and wiring plan. I have a mildly vaulted ceiling (so it's high) and originally i had planned to run a kitchen island down the centre with the table across the door at the back. So i positioned the two pendant light cables accordingly down the centre. There is a ring of spot lights all around the edge of the room. Now the island will be shifted right closer to the main worktop and the table will run parallel on the other side closer to the door leaving my two centre lights hanging over nothing as such. Moving/extending the cables is going to be challenging. Will this look at bit daft? Any suggestions of light fittings for this sort of scenario? The purpose of the pendant lights are for more atmosphere and will be a warmer light than the recess lights.

Would suggest white! A warm white like wimbourne white. All of the most beautiful rooms in my house are painted white! Then add in some wall art and some plants.

I’d also potentially place some spots directly above the island for light and have these on a separate circuit so you can just illuminate the island if you wish
