Created a wall of grey!!

last year

I designed my own kitchen and did not foresee that having an entire row of solid grey cupboards would look so imposing!I wish I had broken this visually with top cupboards being glass fronted or even had some open shelving.Do you think I should replace the top 2 solid cupboard doors above the ovens with glass cupboards with an oak frame to match the floor?

No don’t do that. It will look odd in that situation. It’s fine as it is.

I like it as it now and I think the oak idea sounds odd. I say leave the kitchen alone but consider adding a patterned blind to the window or wall papering at least one wall in order to introduce pattern. You could also have a pendant light above the island to visually fill that space.

F&B Pavilion Grey kitchten units -Which wall colour??

Hi all, I'm looking for some inspiration and help with a wall colour for a kitchen and sunroom. Basically I have Farrow and Ball Pavillion Grey kitchen units and need some advice on a colour that would work well on the walls. Rough cost to create open plan living

Hi All I am thinking about knocking through some walls to create an open plan kitchen living dining area and moving the utility and WC to another part of the house. I have attached photos of plans of what I have now (the drawing I’m colour) and what I am thinking of doing. Would anyone have an idea of what this type of thing costs? Are we talking €20k, €50k 100k?? I suppose a ball park figure to see if this is something we could afford before we start contacting professionals and wasting there time!! We are based in Ireland. i agree with all of the above, leave it as it is. but i think perhaps part of the issue is that all your finishes in the kitchen are hard (which can read as cold) so perhaps the grey is feeding into that and so you're blaming the grey eg. your wall light fittings are hard glass balls, lots of straight edges. as per Jonathan above, adding some softness with a blind or adding colour/texture/pattern with blind/wallpaper/pendant would also help. simple things like adding a couple of big round bowls (that are not grey!) and more plants in round plantpots would help (esp plants with round leaves rather than spiky plants). i'd try to pick up on the orange/red of the dining chairs by having a large red/orange bowl on the island or the sideboard - adds colour, ties both sides of the room together...

I think adding an accent light over the sink area as Jonathan said will definately draw your eye away from the wall of cupboards. Obviously you'll have to tie it in with the one you have over the dining table.

Stick a tallish plant, or big vase of flowers on the island and your eye will be drawn to that rather than the cupboards. It is only one view of the kitchen & from other perspectives you have lots of interesting features. Plus, if it’s only recently done, it does take a little while to get accustomed to it. In a year’s time, you probably won’t notice it at all.

It has been 3 years since I had it done and it still bugs me😂.This is the other part of the kitchen which I actually like!

Anything rust coloured will look fabulous with the grey. A linen blind with a rust stripe may work.

The rest of your room is stunning and so warm, I can see why that kitchen bugs you. I agree about adding a rust coloured blind. If it still bugs you after 3 years maybe consider changing the doors entirely.

Thank you for all your helpful suggestions.I put another plant in a textured rattan container and it makes a difference.Will change to pendants over the island ,get a linen blind with a rust border and at some point change the Kartell bar stools to wooden ones.That should make a little difference !

It does look better! Another suggestion - I just noticed in previous photos that you've got a lovely orange/yellow lamp on your wooden sideboard - I'd love to see that on the buffet section of your kitchen. I know you've got all the wall lights there so don't really need another light, but it would bring some of the dining room warmth and personality into the kitchen. I'd actually prefer to see those kitchen wall lights on the wall of the dining room above and either side of the sideboard.

I might put a smaller lamp on the buffet.Not putting the wall lights over the dining sideboard was a missed opportunity.Now will have to wait for walls to be repainted to do it.
