Kitchen design with breakfast bar

We would like to have a kitchen with lots of workspace and a breakfast bar that doesn't face the wall for the children.

We have a couple of problem measurements and would love to see if anyone has any different ideas.

Our problem measurements are marked on the photo. 56.5 cm from wall to window and 85cm from the floor to the bottom of the windowseal.

We have sketched a brief idea onto the plan but wonder if there is a better option.

You could have units along the long wall only and a Long Island in the middle but you would then have to keep the other wall empty for clearance.
The island can have cabinets along the full length and both sides with the sitting at the empty wall side. You can consider having the hob on the middle of the island as well.

1st impression carry the island until your a meter from the 1/2 bath wall. Make it a galley with all base cabinets as drawer bases. Do not try to turn the cabinets along the 1/2 bath wall. consider adding a raised bar of 47 cm with to the dining room side.

thanks for posting the photos. First, I feel like there is a mix of styles in the design that aren't really complementing each other. The waterfall walnut frame around the frig and wall oven areas is VERY modern. But the rounded front cooktop/bar, the divided light glass front cabinet doors, and molding on the upper cabinets are very traditional -- maybe even a bit 'cottage'. The looks are fighting each other IMHO. Also, I would reconsider the placement of the wall ovens -- they seem very crowded back in that corner. And the range hood going to the ceiling but the cabinets stopping short looks odd to me. Maybe a different hood with a narrower chimney would look better. And, is that the dishwasher on the island? --- Yikes -- I would want that right next to the sink (otherwise you'll be dripping water all over the floor everytime you load it)

Lovely, much better than the 3D plan. V glad you kept your patterned floor tiles, I really like them. It's all come together very attractively. The only thing I'd change and this is just because I'm a colour freak is the pendants - I'd probably have made those red and orange or something. But congrats really, it looks great.

Hi minnie101, Thanks so much for your detailed reply. Great to know what colour that grey is. It may be a little dark with our floor. We will definitely update the handles - I hate the current ones. We'll probably go with wood to keep within budget. Your non-tiles pic is lovely. We'll probably keep some tiles and try to keep the kitchen a little more modern than country kitchen, which might be a challenge with wood. The room faces south. I like your idea of dividing it with paint. We probably will go with white in the kitchen and then 1/2 slightly darker tones in the tv-couch area. The 'other' entrance into the dining area is narrowed by a non-structural wall, so we should remove this to open it properly or like you say, close it off. Maybe not close it off entirely as we'd lose a lot of light, but maybe put in a counter or breakfast bar if space allowed. I love your pendant light suggestions over the dining table. Details like this and a rug in the couch area will really help divide the room as at the moment it is one big cavernous space. I really can't decide yet what way the couches should face - into a tv in the corner, or out into the room like you suggest. We'll have to draw out some chalk outlines on the floor and see how much space there actually is. Colour-wise we like the idea of keeping walls and cabinets quite stark, the wood counter will add a bit of warmth, and then adding colour with couches, rugs and possibly dining chairs. I've attached a couple of pieces of furniture I like. Some may not work, but we'll figure it out.

Thank you Jonathan for linking it back. You have a great memory. My sister in law put the plans on here to help out. And we loved your design and took it forward, but the estimate for the work was too high. We are therefore not knocking through anymore and instead are looking at relocating the kitchen to the current dining room as we feel the room might flow better there and would be next to the utility.
