Hallway room ideas

Hello everyone,
I am hoping to get some ideas and tips to furnish my hallway room.
It's a 4m x 4.2m open room, right next to the front door.
We would love to get your ideas on how to furnish this room.
The paints on the wall can be removed or adjusted to the right location.
Ideally, we would like to utilise the space to:
- wear/take off shoes
- somewhere guests can wait/ hang out and
- a casual reading room for us.
I'm thinking to get a shoe storage, a bench or small couch and a rug.
At the centre of the room under the pendant lights, we would also like to put a small round table where we can put some flowers on..
If you have any suggestions and ideas, that'll be much appreciated :)

Alternatively build in a coat store in the corner by the stairs and then fill the space with a sofa . A table near the front door is useful as a set down when you first enter.

True - a large round table in the middle of the room will create a lot of unusable space :)

We are wondering what rug will go well..

As it'll set the tone of the room, we are doing some reasech and would appreciate if you have any ideas.

Round or square, texture and colour - there are too many options!

Are you looking to finish the piece or leave the wood as is? Consider painting the back of the cabinet an accent color....maybe green or red? Is this off a kitchen or living room....what room is it closest to? The reason I ask is if it is close to the kitchen the obvious accessories are plates etc. A wooden bowl with either pine cones or wooden fruit, lemons? pears? Any pics you put on the shelf would have to be small, so I am not sure of the impact they would have. It would be cool to use a panoramic pic and hang at the back of the shelves. What about a picture of the farm? Antiques repurposed- these spools could be painted fun colors.

You could do a look like this if you choose the right linoleum. Be careful or it could look cheap. The black & white pic is probably tile but could be done in linoleum. Second is marmoleum. Get the real linoleum (not shiny)

I would add a sofa under the windows and a chair. Would add an eye-catching sideboard on the wall facing the opening, that can be used as shoe storage, an interesting coat stand, an oversised mirror, lights, plants, and some small decor.

I was trying to visualise the design - any suggestions for improvement will be much appreciated😊

What we would like to have:

- A shoe storage/coat rack stand next to the door for practicality

- A couch /sofa

- An arm chair or bean bag near the window (the viewing angle, opposite if stairs) would be useful

Everything except for the floor & wall, the staircase and the entrance door can be changed.

Jonathan’s idea of a built in cupboard seems ideal to me!

You get easy access storage close to the entrance that can be hidden away, space for shoes, bags, coats coats, brollies etc.

I’ve seen some very clever build it entrance/boot room style storage cupboards created using Ikea PAX wardrobes and trim/architrave.

You could still achieve the layout suggested by Marina or even have an upholstered bench running the length of that wall.

If you can, I would extend the hallway floor into that room and have a large rug.

What a great space to have so much you can do and not my like my hallway kids dumping ground. I would have a think about what you will see when you walk through your front door. Do you want to see coats and shoe storage? Probably not. Therefore utilising the full height space next to the stair and maybe even built into the stair shoe storage ( a good joiner necessary but if too much work a long bench seat with under storage would also be ideal). That way when guests arrive they really only see it as a room and not a storage space. Which in my house is always over flowing.

Entry hall can get messy quickly so having a storage underthe stairs seems a great option.

We don't have too many things to store at the moment (and trying to keep it that way 😉) so a long bench seat with under storage may be enough for us.

I certainly think creating an under-stairs cupboard would be better than building a cupboard into the room. Also that having the same floor covering for the whole space looks much better than a corridor plus room disconnection.

I wonder what further thoughts you've had about using the room? When does natural light come in and is there a nice view out? If you might use it as a room for reading, I'd suggest a free-standing screen to the right-hand side of the front door so that when you're curled up on the sofa or chair over by the window, you're not immediately visible to or disturbed by people coming through the front door. It could be a feature that you tie in with sofa cushion or rug colours. Just a thought. Even better would be if you could find a slim free-standing thing that has a decorative back and a hollow insides with hooks so that the most regularly used coats, shoes and keys or whatever could be stored inside it, to the right of the door.

I was thinking something like this and if you're crafty people at all, put a back on it that is decorative while screening it from the room...

The room is West facing and gets enough natural lights during the day (though it can get hot in the evening - around sunset in summer).

Our initial plan was to use the space for reading, but we have also recently started to explore if we could utilise the space as a gym at all (yes, the idea is a little bit wild... 🤭).

Not a set decision yet, and we do want to keep the entrance hall room welcoming but having a gym there also seems a practical idea.

If we were to set up a gym we'll probably only put a bench press on the floor and other small accessories can go to a cabinet/shelf.

We're still leaning towards the original plan (maybe 70/30 for original plan /gym option) and I would love to hear if anyone has any ideas or suggestions :)
