Advice for north facing room colour

I'm getting my office painted, it's a smallish room, north facing, and I am a fan of bold colour.

For this reason I"m thinking of putting colourtrend priory blue on top and icehouse on the bottom.

There is a white rail in the middle of the room. And the ceiling white comes down a bit at the top.

What do you think of doing the usual of putting dark on bottom and light on top?

is that done for a reason?

Has anyone else done this and did it work out alright?

I have some suggestions, but none are cream tone. IMO, North facing rooms, because there is so little sunlight, need warmth which most light colors do not give for the chilly North room. BM Leapfrog accented with Asian blue and whites; BM Goldtone accented with cream and a painted blue ceiling; BM Slip accented with white and a really dark green velvet fabric.

I'm a huge fan of Farrow & Ball and their greys are lovely but if they're not working for you then why not try a different brand? The Paint Library Architectural range is very useful and they have a good range of greys in varying shades from I to V (I being the lightest) so you can use a III on the walls and I on the woodwork for a perfect tonal look. They're also grouped by undertone so they're really easy to use! Try Salt or Cotton perhaps? Zoffany also have some beautiful greys and have a similar shading system with some of their colours (quarter, half and double). In particular, I really love the Silver, Harbour Grey and Linen ranges.

Hi there Fiona, It would be great if you could attach some photos of the bathroom! What mood are you going for in there? What ideas have you had thus far re: paint colours? With north facing rooms I heard it's best to stay away from cool colours like greys and go for something with a little warmth like yellow or creamy neutrals. However tiling and lighting can also add warmth if you're set on a cool colour scheme. It's good to have glossy rather than matt units so that whatever light does get it in is dispersed around the room. Painting the ceiling a brilliant white would also help reflect light. Hiya We recently moved into our new apt. both bedrooms are north facing so I'm looking for ideas for colours. we have a black leather framed bed & I've picked out 2 bed side lockers which are wood with black drawers and 2 bedside lamps with a copper stand, our wardrobe is not the standard built in type...the wardrobe door is basically a normal room door if you know what I mean. Its pretty spacious and I'm conscious while filling space I don't want to clutter it. Our living area is painted Oxford white and my other half wants to use this in the bedroom...but I think it would he weird to paint the bedrooms the same colour as the living area. Would love to hear ideas as lacking inspiration right now!
