Blinds for slide and turn doors

We have almost decided on x3 slide and turn doors manufactured by ID Systems in Norwich, for our extension looking out over the garden. Each pane will be approx 1100mm wide. When we visited them they didnt have a working integral blind so we couldnt see what it looked like. However, we could see it’s manually operated by a pull cord, and the whole mechanism is attached to the outside of each pane. This is a bit off-putting. Has anybody got these same blinds installed please? How do you find working them and how they look visually with the mechanism and external cord? If you have slide and turn doors but opted for a different blinds system, please could you tell me what it is and how you’re getting on with it? Thanks so much much. Irene

Hi Irene, if you don't want a pull cord, you could have 3 remote-controlled blinds. They'd be more expensive but would have a very neat appearance - see photo. Joy

You could do matching roman shade and curtains. For the sliding doors, you could consider a more substantial curtain rod so it doesn't need a centre support. That way curtain could be moved over into corner.

Take out sofa, use beanbags and those blow up seats for their friends. Coloured rugs for tumbling and crawling on. Supersoft teddy bear blankets so they can curl up. Add in one of those soft blanket boxes for toy storage and so you have somewhere soft to perch when you are with them. Paper half way up the wall in the wall paper that kids can draw on, so they can decorate in whatever colour they like and you won't mind. A childs lift up desk, bookcase and some crazy lamps in weird colours. Then close the door, collapse on the sofa that you have moved, breathe a sigh of relief and thank your lucky stars that you have another room for the kids to go to. (Grab wine and pretend they aren't yours for half an hour! ;-) )

I can't zoom in on your photo to get a closer look. Maybe you could take some close up shots. Alternatively you can add a contemporary pelmet box above and the blinds can be mounted into this. I would recommend having them custom made by a professional company with a quality installer. Roman blinds on a chain side winder mounted above the doors would also work well. I agree, blinds, they are large windows so that is a lot of material / expense if you go down the curtain route, plus curtains may block out light. We have sliding doors like yours and have chosen to keep them free of any covering, however we are not overlooked. You might also want to consider translucent / sheer roller blinds which offer moderate privacy yet still retain a degree of visibility. We have them on our front windows for privacy as we are in a single storey house / bungalow, people can't see in (during the day) but we can see out. We also have curtains with them in the sitting room as we wanted it to be more cosy / private at night. In the other rooms we have another blind that sits over the sheer blinds, but this wouldn't work for all windows.

That's right - they're not specific to 'slide and turn' doors. They're traditionally positioned above 'slide and turn' doors (in the space between the top of the doors and the ceiling) so they don't cover any of the glass/views when compressed.

For blinds with a drop of 2300mm how much space between the ceiling and top of the doors would be required?

Hi Irene, in answer to your query:

For a drop of 2300mm, the fixed rail, moving rail, and compressed honeycomb fabric would fit in a space of 92-113mm (depending on fabric choice, i.e., thickness).
