I’ve just purchased this house and have no idea what best way to beautify the exterior? I’ve always liked white houses with black windows and doors but what do I do about wooden slats? The external walls and decoration got a 2 so definitely needs done. Help please 🙏🏼😅
You can treat or stain the wooden slats to change the look of them. If you paint them then you'll be stuck repainting regularly, so you might want to avoid that. But a stain that soaks into the wood will change the colour without needing to be regularly applied. You might want to also chat with your adjoining neighbours and treat both at the same time so they look good side by side. Though that can take a longer time to get to know them and negotiate a finish that you both like!
If you remove and redo the external render then look at incorporating more insulation - this period of house tends to not be well insulated. You could also remove the timber slats and insulate behind a new finish as they are likely even less insulated there. You could replace the timber with a lower maintenance option like hung slates or tiles.
The difficulty is choosing because you have so many options!
