which oven cleaner??

Ok - I admit I would rather move house than clean the oven but perhaps there is an easy way.

I remember there is a product where the shelves and wire accessories slosh around in a plastic bag full of chemicals for a couple of hours before coming out sparkling…… is that a myth? Does anyone have any tips that don’t require any/ much scrubbing or noxious fumes?

I had a company out to clean mine last time Was rather hoping they’d clean the roof of it but they didn’t as they dismember it except for that part and put everything in soak in their van.

I have on regular occasions used oven pride which is excellent for the shelves but there is still the interior to do (hence me coughing up for someone else to do it).

I’m now an air fryer (Ninja) convert so all my meat, roasties and fish go in that which is far easier to clean than a huge oven interior.

This is the stuff, it's great but there's still a bit of cleaning to do inside the oven itself

Happy to help ! I'm only a short swim away in England !! I think if you want a truly opulent cream for the kitchen cabinets - I'd suggest you get a colour match for the range ! It looks a very creamy cream ! Think it could be stunning ! Then have slightly lighter walls and tiles to keep the room feeling light and airy ! If you have walnut stain for your worktop on your island , I'd suggest using that on your exposed legs if you go for the dipped paint look on the table and chairs ! Are you having the classic CC shaped island ?!?

I might consider one of the top extractors instead as it will be easier to fit a glass slashback up to a straight extractor. Personally I think the chrome looks more expensive.

HI Sophie, Thanks so much for the suggestions. We would never have thought of moving the sink - I guess you get used to things where they have always been! Just so I can understand and visual where you suggest moving things to, when you say move the fridge down to opposite the pennisula, do you mean near the entry to the kitchen (where the small three cupboards are shown on the drawing above) or where the cooktop is currently? I know one concern that my mum has is that the width of the fridge will jut out too far into the kitchen, taking up too much room. I've attached a picture with dimensions on it. Keep the suggestions coming :)

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Thanks everyone- I think I’m going to use the pyrolysis clean function on my oven to nuke the inside of the oven then use Oven Pride or similar on the shelves…… I will report back

Note to self- my combination steam oven has been well used but looks like new- perhaps I should use that more!

Hi Jonathan, i have a pyrolytic oven which mostly cleans itself, but it never cleans the glass door properly , so I use a bit of Cif on that. The shelves need to be removed before using the pyrolytic function. It can make the kitchen a bit “fumey” so open windows or put the fan on. It takes about 3 hrs, well mine does. For the shelves, I use Oven Pride, and yes it does have a big bag which holds the metal shelves and you pour in the chemical liquid. You need to slosh the liquid bag every now and then to ensure it covers everything. Do this outside as sometimes it leaks and you don’t want the noxious liquid in your lovely kitchen. Leave the shelves to soak for as long as possible. Once done, rinse thoroughly and you will have lovely shiny shelves. Or get someone in to clean it for you!

Soda crystals mixed with bicarb of soda and hot water. Degreases beautifully and deodorises without all the strong chemicals. Any tough stains I mix bicarb into a paste with cold water and leave overnight.

I second all of the above, the pyrolytic function (or paralytic as is commonly called) is ok on the actual oven but doesn't address the shelves which are the worst bit. Oven Pride helps but leave them overnight, alternatively there is a thriving business in people who do deep oven cleans and take everything apart, worth a google. Brillo pads and rubber gloves also essential.
