Ideas for a Media Unit

Hi everyone - I'd like to get some form of media unit but struggling for ideas on it. We have a large tv (65Inch), sound bar, bass and playstation wires all to incorporate. Would also like some form of back lighting. It's a high ceiling room so I don't want it to feel lost nor overpower the room, and theres also an entry door and a balcony door so has passing traffic. Any ideas or inspiration would be much appreciated! Glenageary based (if you also have recommendations of companies who could do the job!)

Hi Richie, Have a look at this: http://www.avforums.com/threads/mixed-members-home-cinema-gallery-section-pictures-only.1051141/page-5 - 12 pages of different set-ups, most of them in rather small rooms. You could choose one room that you like most (or bits from different ones) and try to replicate it. There's also a DIY section - some guys tell you what they did step-by-step. Take out sofa, use beanbags and those blow up seats for their friends. Coloured rugs for tumbling and crawling on. Supersoft teddy bear blankets so they can curl up. Add in one of those soft blanket boxes for toy storage and so you have somewhere soft to perch when you are with them. Paper half way up the wall in the wall paper that kids can draw on, so they can decorate in whatever colour they like and you won't mind. A childs lift up desk, bookcase and some crazy lamps in weird colours. Then close the door, collapse on the sofa that you have moved, breathe a sigh of relief and thank your lucky stars that you have another room for the kids to go to. (Grab wine and pretend they aren't yours for half an hour! ;-) )

If it was me, I would centre it and only silicone the back. I understand your concerns about water going down the side. Realistically, though, as you will only be washing your hands and maybe teeth in it, there is unlikely to be much water gushing about. To detract from the fact there is not as much space on either side of sink, I would have carpenter either wall mount or put legs on the cabinet so there is space underneath and the unit doesn't look too chunky!
