Flat living room layout - where should the sofa, TV and table go?

Hi, I’m about to purchase my first flat and I'm super excited. However I have one conundrum which is how to lay out the lounge/dining/kitchen area. The pictures below are how the current owners have laid it out. I’d like to have a dining table but I'm not sure where to put the sofa and tv firstly. As you'll see from the pictures, the radiator and juliet balcony make it a little awkward. Theres enough floor space up to where the tile floor start in the pictures. Any ideas appreciated!

Hello Jas, a suggestion would be to have a sofa against the gray wall and tv on the side where the radiator is, with that you still have a view outside the window or to the tv.

How about using sofa as a room divider and placing it along floor connection? TV on the grey wall and table along radiator wall. Please see below for an inspiration.

Hi, thanks for your comment. I totally agree - I actually have a large art print on order (vertical/ portrait orientation) and that will be replacing the mirror when it arrives. From previous comments I received everyone seems have different opinions on sofa choices but I think I'm pretty happy with the L shape one I've gone with - it fits the space a lot better (I think!) than the 3 & 2 seaters I previously had. I contemplated going with a different lighter sofa colour but practicality won in the end!

Thanks, I wasn't sure where the 9'4 measurement came in. If you're buying all new furniture then look for items on legs, as you can see the floor beneath it will make the space feel bigger. You can also use glass ie a glass coffee table or Louis ghost chairs for example. I'd also go for a large mirror over the hearth or not knowing your style could also have a ŵall of glass tiles for the same effect which will also bounce light. I'd go for a pale tone sofa and use warmer/darker colours for cushions if wanted. If you want a rug then I'd keep it in the same tone as the floor else to visually maximise floor space. I've drawn a very rough plan (not entirely to scale and obviously not knowing where doors etc are!). I assume you're wanting to buy furniture before you move in? If so do you have a similar size room where you could cut out paper templates of all furniture to see if the space works? I would mount the tv on the ŵall if you have one. Hanging it over a slim console (or slim cabinet for storage) means you can add art on the ŵall and accessorise the console so the tv doesn't become the feature of the ŵall. You could go for a coffee table or a small footstool which can double up as extra seating and table. I'd go for a round dining table, 3ft will seat 4 and you can pull it away from the corner when entertaining. i'd go for a 2 seater sofa (c5f?) but try and get a slim one. I don't know the size of the windows but blinds, shutters may also be an idea so curtains don't encroach on the floor space? In terms of decor do you want light and neutral or dark and moody then people can suggest paint colours?

It feels bland because floors and walls are beige. (ish). If you want to make a statement about a room. contrasting shades work really well. You have spotlights so the south aspect is irrelevant. Put a dimmer on spots if not already there so you control the light and feel of a room. I presume the fire is staying there so that back wall would be perfect for TV to be put on/entertainment system. Corner couch facing tv wall with chaise lounge on fire side. Behind the corner or L shaped couch, table and chairs so the room is functional for entertaining also and the layout is proportional. The room also has a focal point (TV)

Hello everyone, I am going to furnish my first apartment and I have doubts where to put sofa TV table and chairs... I am aware the way they furnished it doesn't maximise the space - I will probably put just one corner sofa. Can you kindly recommend me how can I maximise the space? A few suggestions:

A compact L-shape sofa facing the balcony.

Contemporary style sofa, seating more and taking less space (depth) and low upholstered footstool.

TV unit to the left of the balcony

TV on wall between the window and balcony.

Compact dining set placed centrally to the kitchen space (if there is enough room).

A large mirror facing the balcony to give an illusion of space.

I noticed the de-humidifier in the photo. Some indoor plants make excellent de-humidifier by absorbing water through their leaves. A planter or two can define space in a small area too.
