Dried paint lines

last year

I’m painting our office, primed it white as the wall was pink and the first layer went on well. i did a second coat but roller lines where it has overlapped have appeared. Any tips on evening it out? (please ignore the out of boundary marks, i will fix those)

The only way to fix it is to apply another coat. Do it quickly to maintain a wet edge between sweeps of the roller.

Did you not use a brush around the edges to get a clean straight line and then roller the middle area?

thanks, My dilemma is that the doors, skirting and architrave are all oak but the frames are MDF, any thoughts on what my options might be to make all these items work? I want to maintain the natural oak finish by simply staining but what to do with the MDF frames??

I think the design of the exterior has real 70s integrity. A bit of paint is all you need. Replace the garage doors with floor to ceiling windows matching the aesthetic the current windows already have. You should check out Cocontest.com for architecture work, or you could try and find an interior architect (there are degree courses in interior architecture these days) I've seen loads of one plan's posts and it would definitely be worth having a chat with them. I also think that you'll get more out of the project if you can educate yourself a little on design. I do my best to do this over on www.houseplanshelper.com

I'd paint white the TV wall in oder to make it visually higher and to hide the white color of the door, now the dark color under lines that it is rather low and different from two main doors color and height of third one. I like brown FP wall, it works good with sofas and will attract eyes visually raising the ceiling above TV furniture. And one more thing I'd think about: the 1-st photo shows that there are too much unconnected different heights (doors, mirror, TV furniture, FP wall, ceiling). Definitely some heights are needed to be connected. I'd put lower the mirror and the shelf above FP so that the TV furniture and the mirror up lines were the same height. To bring more colors into the room as it was mentioned above I'd pick up some colors from the art work for cushions and curtains.

It looks very pretty. I would look at pics of painted floors versus whitewashed and see which you prefer then people can hopefully help with methods. I've used chalk paint but not on a floor. Annie Sloan sell floor lacquer so you don't need to use the wax which is very time consuming to apply, the lacquer can be rollered on. The only thing I would say is that it does not adhere to I think varnish made in the 80's and I find the White paint coverage is poor although not an issue if white washing. If the lines are raised risges you can give a light sand with fine grit sandpaper then another layer. Try to roller in every direction to blend so there is never really 'a line', you're overlaps should be random that way the light bounces off any imperfections in all different directions and so less noticeable. And yes, you have to work quickly so you're never blending wet onto dry. I found watching YouTube videos very helpful when we were new to decorating. Don't give up, good luck.
