How dark is too dark?
I really like dark, moody colours.
i have a large open plan living room , which is light and airy. i have a separate lounge, with a large fireplace, that I’m planning on using as a formal/winter lounge i would like to go dark and moody and have narrowed it down to two colours; fynbos by paint and apaer library, or rainy afternnon by benjsmin Moore i prefer the tone of the BM colour, but worry its just a little too dark
What do you think?.
Floor is oak, sofas are 1 tan chesterfield, 1 mustard velvet sofa

5 months agoI assume the first picture is fynbos and the second is rainy afternoon? Of the two I prefer fynbos. Have you looked at Farrow & Ball De Nimes or Oval Room Blue? Both have a similar tone but not quite so dark. First pic is De Nimes, second is ORB.

Comments (7)I would pick my flooring first. Then I would paint the walls. Then have a look at the room and see how you like it before you paint the cupboards or the brick. Do it in steps because I think your brick could look quite nice and I like your cupboards the way they are. Just don't jump too fast painting things that you can't reverse. It may be that you will still want to paint the brick and cupboards but better to see how things look before you do. Comments (3)Brighten the dining with a chandelier over the table and a new rug in the right size. It should be 4' wider and longer than your table top to allow for chair scoot and sit space without the chairs falling off the rug. Change out your red for yellow to add a pop of brightness. Comments (11)Agree with alant1000 about starting from scratch, but not sure about white. They are some lovely either light grey, light green, or light caramel, which will keep the room warm feeling, and less stark. The wallpaper feature wall you presently have is far too dark for the room - if you want wallpaper, there are some lovely sparkle designs, or stick to paint and do a slightly darker colour than the chosen wall colour. Have you thought about painting the doors white? The dark curtains do not help either. Do you need curtains and vertical blinds? If you lost the curtains, the window would look neater and lighter.
