I want to install floating shelves next to a corner of the fireplace. But I also want to paint the walls and shelves the same color. should I paint the walls first and then match the shelves the same color? OR should I install the shelves and color the wall and shelves together at the same time?
I would paint the wall first, then if you change the shelves you won’t be left with a gap in the paintwork. And it’s surprising how easily one can see the join on even the best fitted shelf and painting the wall first will avoid this.
I agree paint the wall first. You could also paint the shelves before installing too, once they are fully dry. Don’t use emulsion on the shelves as it isn’t hardwearing enough, use eggshell or Satinwood which is washable.
