Affordable interior design consultation??

last year

Hi we are moving to a new flat in North London in a few months!

It’s a not too small (100sqmish) two bed two bathroom ground floor flat with a large, long open plan reception dining kitchen area.

The place does not need any structural work but we want to re-design the feel of it, like sand and redo the floor, re-paint the whole place and install new lightings, new furniture etc etc

We have been obsessed with Houzz for inspiration, and visited all paint shops, furniture shops etc…but we are ultimately confused and undecided haha

We don’t want to spend too much money but do interior designers also do online or visit consultation to help with this sort of thing? Just to give us couple of mood boards / design options for what floor color, wall paint, what kind of color furniture etc etc??

If anyone had an experience doing this can you refer us to someone? We do love English classic style like Oka or Soho home!

Hi S, mirrors are effective when they are reflecting something visually interesting, like the view from an opposite window to the outdoors, or when used to create the illusion of additional space. The mirror in this picture does neither of those things. With the TV removed from the corner, there is more room for the window treatments to fill the corner properly (right now they look a bit squished), and it would be fine to leave it bare, or put a low accessory item in the corner, like a sculpture or a potted tree (not too tall!). As for the rug and table, there are 3 ways you can go: since the striped wallpaper and the floors are so neutral already, you can afford to add some color into the room with the rug. With a colorful or patterned rug, a clear glass table top would be good, because it allows you to see the rug. In that instance, the rug becomes the focal point of your furniture group. If you want to keep the rug very neutral too, then a solid table top is good (in an interesting material- maybe wood or stone). In that case, the table becomes the focal point of your furniture group. Lastly, if you want a neutral rug and a transparent table top, I would be sure to add some color or pattern to your seating- either the sofas themselves or throw pillows on the sofas, to inject some energy and keep the whole room from feeling too bland.

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. I love the cabin in the woods, its a intimate setting where you are drawn to the outside whilst keeping snug indoors. The use of fabrics sets it apart from the usual cold designs of other modern rooms. The attention detail in the selection of furniture pieces keeps it modern yet functional.
