Help! Thoughts on bathroom layout. Is it too late to change?
Hi.
I'd appreciate any thoughts and comments on our current plan for the bathroom. We've had the electrics put in and it's all been plastered but I'm having major second thoughts as I feel the bath is too small (150cm) and it's touch and go whether it will all fit once it's been tiled anyway.
If possible, I'd like to not mess around with moving the electrics too much, but if we have to then we have to.

Comments (14)Jen, are you sure everything is in proportion? I'm asking, because that store seems to be just a bit wider than a door (so about 1 m) which is fine, but doesn't give much space to manoeuvre inside it. Also, a bit too many doors in a small space, but I'm afraid I can't offer you a remedy for that. You have two wide, massive windows and a door in between, I think that will give plenty of light. Personally, I'd just add skylights or a glass roof. Or a long strip of glass all along What you don't seem to have is ventilation windows. Trust me, you're going to want one in the utility, or at least a good fan. Transom style windows could work too if you can open them. I really wish you'd see an architect... there are lots of different, small things that a professional can spot from miles away that you wouldn't even consider. As a pro I wonder if you could offer your thoughts on a couple of scenarios 1 - Leave bath where it is - what would be involved in moving the shower 4-6 inches to the centre of the bath? I did consider the P shaped bath and will consider your suggestion for a shorter bath to allow room for the toilet, but I currently had to put in a door stop to protect the shower door from the entrance door handle and I would be concerned about a rounded door being even closer. If I left the bath where it is I have a couple of options, turning the toilet and cistern 90 degrees to the adjoining wall - see above for the considerations there, or I have also considered switching the toilet and sink. I would put the sink facing the wall where the cistern currently is have a large-ish vanity from the base of the bath to the wall, and the if the toilet was where the sink is it would not interfere with the doors for the hot press as the seat would be considerably lower than the sink is currently thus giving me the better access I want. In this scenario the main issue for me would be the toilet would be facing the entrance door, a bit unsightly but if it gave me the space I want I think I could live with the compromise. 2 - A bit more involved, but I have also considered moving the bath sideways along the short length of the room, shower end over the space where the cistern is currently and moving the sink and toilet to the space where the bath is currently. I think this would allow me room for a vanity and maybe also a tall storage cupboard for the towels and linens currently in the hot press. The obvious concern with this is the shower spray in the direction of the hot press, if I got the storage I needed elsewhere in the bathroom I wouldn't be concerned about those getting wet, but would want to ensure I don't end up with a leak over the stairs. Access would also be an issue if repairs were required for the shower pump or the hot water system. You would have to step into the bath to gain access. Comments (1)The room has a nice feel but is a challenge in regard to furniture placement. Without structural changes, the best option would be to move the desk to the wall beside the double doors or to the wall bounding the kitchen and put a sofa (you may fit a three seater) to the left of the fireplace and buy two nice chairs on double door side of the fireplace. Something like this but without the middle sofa. A big mirror over the fireplace will help bounce light. Longer term, perhaps you should consider opening up the kitchen. last yearI guess you've already resolved this one way or another as the thread is 3 months old, but there are a few ways to do it. Final solution depends in part on positions of soil pipe & drainage, but assuming it causes no problems for that, a layout like this would work:
Going with a "curved corner" bath opens the room and takes away a sharp corner. I'd also consider doing the same to the shower with an "offset quadrant" shower:
Plumbing permitting, the basin & WC could be swapped.
