Windows Design Dilemma

What to put on this window

last year

Got this big window 1/2 way up our stairs. What can I put on the sill to brighten it up? Don't want a blind as it's frosted glass & no one can see as it's on the side of house etc thoughts?

A tall vase? Style depends on your decor, but here’s some ideas. Plants are good too. Umbrella plant and Snake plant are easy to care for.

You could do a bench with a top that opened for storage. This way family & guests have a place to sit and take off their shoes or boots when entering. You could also put hooks on the wall above the bench for a place to hang coats or keys. A second option could be a sideboard or dresser. This would also provide storage and you could put decorative accessories on the top of it and hang a nice picture on the wall.

I have to agree that glass film is brilliant- we used Purlfrost online. You can either pre measure and they will cut for you you or you can buy a piece and cut to your own specs. It arrives rolled in a tube. We've done two rooms- the living room with full frost and the other, a bedroom- with just the bottom half of the window covered which looks pretty modern and sharp. It was supposed to be a temporary solution till we got shutters organised but it looks so effective and fresh that we've decided to save the small fortune that shutters cost! The help line was great- they recommended leaving a gap around the edge near the frame for a beveled glass effect which did actually work! You can get different levels of opaqueness - we used the less opaque for more light but still private- or patterns or stained glass effect. Its really easy to apply yourself too, and apparently comes off with no damage to the glass at all, so good if. Works out really economical as well. Can you tell I'd recommend it?! :)

Maybe a climbing plant that you could trail up and around the window edge to take off the squareness and bareness?

Something that has colour, perhaps a large colourful artificial plant.

How about painting the inside sill, sides and top of the window as a frame? It can be very effective and simple to achieve. And then you won’t have the worry of knocking into anything too!

I’ve put curtains over mine as although it’s frosted they do seem to keep some of the heat from escaping and make it seem cosier

Maybe look at window film and sticker ideas. You could put a big design on the glass.
