Help with radiator locations

Hi

We are in the process of remodelling a one bed bungalow and need some help with where best to locate the radiators so to most effectively heat the space.

The space within the unit is open plan with the hallway opening up into the kitchen, dining and living area.

The attached plan shows the current proposed radiator locations mark in red.

All advise and views would be much appreciated.

I think the radiator in the open plan area would be better on the opposite wall, since external walls are colder than internal walls.

I would move the radiator by the front door further down the hall so it’s closer to the living room.

You might also want to do a calculation on radiator size- search online for btu calculators.

While you are at it you might consider if you will ever have an ASHP in which case you should future proof the radiators by getting higher output ones now.

If you want custom cream panelling built from scratch, it is likely to take you more than three weeks to line up a contractor, get it built and then painted. If you want to use beadboard (thin, lightweight, cheap) you can do it yourself if you are good at the small precision cuts around the wood window trim and behind the radiators. You can get a custom built wood cover with doors for your tv or use the painting over tv disguise made with hinges. I think the room is beautiful as it is. Spend some money on a truly beautiful, impressive chandelier, have it centered over the table. If you want to impress relatives at an event, the chandelier is the way to go. Clean the windows for extra sparkle. If you are in the US, try Home Decorators http://www.homedecorators.com for DVD storage cabinets that are closed. I would not get a rug for this room unless I was ready to get it cleaned frequently and I could find one that looked good with dog hair on it and did not show stains. A good quality, highly patterned wool Oriental rug will do that job nicely. Such a rug is an investment and may take longer than three weeks to find.

I'm trying to do the impossible and decide on a Kitchen design for a very narrow Kitchen. 170cm wide and 375 cm long with 2 doors, a window, a boiler and a radiator to take into account! I'm thinking of one wall with 40cm depth units and on the other wall 60cm depth units leaving a 70cm galley space. Is this completely unworkable? I know it will be awkward but am willing to put up with that for the storage and counter space, my concern is that 70cm is just to narrow a space to be feasible. This is a house for 2 people max.

Living room help for colours etc

New living room opened up.. And I am completely lost with decorating.. Painting colours really everything I get overwhelmed when I try make a start.. We have moved into it but consists of 3seater brown leather couch and double seater and single seater none matching.. We have carpet on the floor until pipes are ran under floor for radiators eventually it will be wood or laminate flooring.. Huge mat there.. Curtains that I am sick of.. No photos on wall as unsure about sizes and colours of photo frames and positioning.. It's a very big room high ceilings.. Red brick fireplace.. Need loads of advise to have a nice relaxing homely feel.. Family 5kids 2adults

Hi All, Hoping to build a new house this year and to me the Kitchen is the most important part.I spend all my time there and love cooking. I've always dreamed of having a pantry that i could just walk into and see all my ingredients so that was a must. All the kitchens I've seen have lots of cabinets but i always end up taking everything out and leaving it on a counter so I want my kitchen to appear clutterless and have all my bits and pieces on show in the hidden pantry! I also wanted an island with a sink and dishwasher in it so when i was cleaning i could have full view of the kitchen and nowhere near the backdoor traffic! I don't mind my hob being against a wall as I find most my time is spent on prep beside a sink! I also wanted stools at a heightened part of that island so others could sit and talk to me but not be on the same level. However now I'm worried that I won't have room for a large fridge and freezer which is important as its a rural location so I'll be stocking food. Also was hoping to get advice on how to select a kitchen supplier? Any ideas are welcome as I'm still in the planning process and want to have all my plumbing and electrical points in place when i go to builders and tradesmen!

Hi Tim Martin, have you chosen the layout for the furniture positioning? This will help to make sure the radiator will not be in the way for any essential pieces in the room.

I’ve shown the furniture on the layout, but agree radiators need to work around these.
Thanks Jonathan, will take a look at the btu calculators.
We are going full electric so rads simply plug into power sockets.

Agree with Sarah. Would not put beside the dining table but on the opposite wall. The radiator looks a little small for that sized room also. Advise you to do the calculation for the space. https://www.calculator.net/btu-calculator.html
