Paint Kitchens Design Dilemma

white kitchen dilemma

We’ve installed a white kitchen into an open plan living, dining space which is north facing and I’m struggling to find a base colour that suits as I’ve got a pale grey oven to consider. Grey walls look dull and some whites look too yellow, no idea which colours would look best.

Do you mean a wall colour? If so, Farrow and Ball All White is lovely, and I recently saw someone had painted a room in Drop Cloth which looked gorgeous.

You could do a black paint trim over the wooden bits. It would go with the work tops. But not so much with the creamy doors; Or get all of the kitchen units spray painted white? I think if you try to match the floor with the wood of the units in the kitchen you may leave yourself open to a mismatch or even just an overload of wood. I didn't feel there was enough black there as the island top kind of took me by surprise on first seeing it. But could you remove that granite altogether and see how it looks then? Maybe it's the black that's the problem not the wood at all

There will be plenty of room for you to have an Island within your Kitchen / Diner. I would possibly look into a maneuverable island rather than a fitted, to ensure that you have ample space should you cater to more than 6 guests. (I've attached a Layout). I suggest that you use the 12 tiles you have and like in some arrangement as a stove backsplash. You might need to use white tiles or tile strips in between your own tiles to make a pleasing arrangement. Use white tiles to complete the space behind the stove and the other areas where you want to have tile.

We're in the process of planning a renovation of a 1980's bungalow and we're starting with the kitchen - how practical is it to use laminate flooring with spillage etc. Our kitchen worktops will be painted mussel and the island airforce blue with a white quartz worktop and we thought a wooden floor would be a nice contrast. Would appreciate any advice particularly from anyone who has a wooden floor. Thanks!

Go for white or brilliant white colour to achieve best possible light. Grey works well with...white and black, yellow, green and few more. Question is, what is it that you want to achieve?
