Furniture Design Dilemma Dining Rooms

Best paint for dining chairs

last year

I've got 4 beautiful dining chairs to upcycle but am totally confused with paint!! I have two young children so something durable and easily cleaned is necessary. So chalk paint is out. Does anyone have recommendations? Hoping to do something a little eclectic!

Chairs get a lot of wear and tear. I don’t think any paint is totally durable, they all chip eventually. Rustoleum do furniture paint and reviews seem good. I’ve never used it. This one is a satin finish not that awful chalky finish.

Prior to painting give them a thorough sand and use a good primer suitable for wood. Sonia is right that there are some great furniture paints the will endure. However have you considered sanding and revarnishing? There are plenty of varnishes to choose from - some are clear and others contain dyes, giving you plenty of choice about the result. Whatever you decide take your time over the work to get the best results.

Thanks guys, in my own head I was thinking mismatched chairs, maybe painted in a neutral shabby chic kind of way, but I'm really impressed with both the ghost chair and the tobias as it makes it all about the table but definitely puts a modern twist on it. Any other photos out there of the ghost or tobias in situ?

Hi, I love Victorian houses especially ones with original features. Is there also a fireplace in the lounge? I don't necessarily think you need exactly the same on both rooms. I this if the flooring is the same then you can create two different moods. Like you say if one get more light and has a large bay window then you will automatically get a very different feel. I would say that out of the colours you mentioned I would be more inclined to go with the grey tones in the front room. These would tie in tonally with the navy in the dining room. I would also follow the same theme with woodwork and mouldings etc. Perhaps you could be brave and introduce a bright accent colour in the front room like a lovely bright yellow/mustard colour. This would add the warmth and work with the brighter aspect. You could include it on larger spaces such as a rug, cushions and blinds etc Hope this helps. Good luck with your move!

Would suggest white! A warm white like wimbourne white. All of the most beautiful rooms in my house are painted white! Then add in some wall art and some plants.
