What would you do?

There are a few things we would like to do to to our house.

At the ground floor, we would like to create a bigger kitchen but not entirely sure which wall we should knock down, the wall next to the existing kitchen shared with the dinning is a load bearing wall, or knock down the wall between the dinning and the living room that is not a load bearing wall to move the kitchen there entirely?

At the first floor, we would like to make the bathroom bigger by knock down the wall with the loo ( this is annoying currently because there is no basin in the loo) and to create a new en-suite for one of the bedrooms, but not sure which room we should have an en-suite in?

With all the works we want do.. we are also thinking to create a new extension both on the ground and first floor on the left to make the living room and the bedroom above bigger? So to create a en-suite for that bigger room on the left? But with the extension potentially being quite expensive.. not sure what we can do with the currently layout.. what would you do?

Thank you Carl! This is very helpful, put things in perspective with the cost. I like the idea of borrowing some space from the bathroom for a basin for the existing toilet.. haven’t thought about that. Much appreciated.

If we want to work with the existing layout to create an en-suite with bigger bedroom, is it possible or would it too crumped? Thanks!

You need some kitchen accessories kettle etc that tie in with the red and also some artwork. The red you have chosen looks on my monitor to be a cool red, perhaps a bit of a warmer shade would help. i would also extend the dining area curtains down to the floor, they will cosy up the space, as would a statement rug to give a bit more life to the room. If your living room is green then it may be nice to have some token green of the same shade, somewhere in the kitchen, a plant or some artwork, and add a bit of the kitchen red to your living room, so that there is some continuity of colour in your home, as opposed to having two separate colour boxes and never the twain shall meet..

Dear Éilíse Sullivan, the mahogany wardrobe looks like a great project! The image is too small for me to see the details of it; it looks like has glass/metal door at the top part and design details on the draws. If you send me a better quality image and with the door closed I can visualised it for you in any other colour you like if it helps. Replacing part of the furniture (glass) with solid panels covered in wall paper or fabric, using decoupage for the inside of the drawers or muted colours on the outside and brights on the inside ... are all possibility depending in which room you want to place it and what you are going to use it for. Are you going to do it for yourself, just for fun or to sell/present? I would paint the back panel in a darker colour, also the inside of the wardrobe part and all the horizontal and vertical straight lines to frame the different units: draws, 'open shelf' cabinet at the top and door. I would go for wall paper on the inside of the draws, something sympathetic with the darker tone on the back panel ... the handle can stay or be replaced (I need a closer look); they can really give a wist to the furniture if changed. For the choice of colours ... it really depend on where it goes and what you want to do with it. The room's images you posted are quite different in style. You could try to 'blend' the piece in to the room's design scheme by choosing complementary colours or go the opposite and bring in a bold statement. I like bold statements! I highly recommend (for anything you are considering purchasing) you look at the on line review and comments. Do a search putting in the name of the chairs and then "reviews" and see what people who have purchased them say about them. Might save you from a bad purchase if the reviews are mainly negative.
