Living Rooms Paint Home Decorating

what colours for my east/west facing rooms? farrow

last year

Hi! I’m keen to have our new place decorated before moving in (we have a young toddler) I am not able to test paints on it. Am I mad?!

The garden is west facing so is the kitchen and then the living room at the front is east facing.

I want it all to be cohesive but not sure if it is… then I’m hoping for a creamy/sisal herringbone carpet and runner

Our east facing open plan living room and hallway and then in the stairwells and halls I was thinking all cornforth white. Am I mad/will it be too grey/cold? Would slipper satin work better? Just to note I really dislike anything too cream or magnolia vibes.

Our loft room is more east facing but gets a bit of light from the loo. I was thinking elephants breath

How will you pose for your Miss Photogenic photo op? Will you go with the Carmen Miranda fruit bowl tiara? Or would the Easter egg thingamadooeys suffice? Decisions, decisions..... Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Go for what speaks to you, but do it with elegance :-)

Hi, I think Elephant's Breath would be stunning. I used it before on a project in a open plan living and kitchen area in similar room position and it looks great. If you use the Elephant's Breath I would keep the cabinets one colour. The actual colour looks different at certain times of the day or under natural and artificial lighting. Sometimes it is more soft grey and dark and other times it's quite bright and light. I wouldn't go any darker than that. The tone is more in warm so no blue or cool grey. I would suggest that you mix the cabinet units with calacatta marble worktop and splashback which is a white marble. Or you can go the opposite way and use black marble like nero marquinia or dark granite. Natural wood would also look great. If you want another colour option I would also consider Old White No4. It's more into green tones and even warmer. I have a dining room project on my profile with the display cabinet painted in this colour. You can have a look there. Hope this helps. Karolina

To be honest I would be very careful with grey or anything with grey tones. We moved house last July and painted our lounge in FB elephants breath. In the north facing room it was very grey and sucked the life out of the room. We had to change it - very depressing. We have now used a paint from Little Greene - the paint quality is so much better than FB. Our decorator agrees. They might have a nice grey - but please be very sure of how it will look in your room!
