Hallway paint colour

Hi,
I'm decorating my hallway, stairs and 2 landings above, some areas are well lit, others can get a little dark. The light is east facing. It's a 1930s house in London
I'm so stuck with the paint colour. I have the same carpet I have used in my loft room, a mix of brown and greyish colours but I didn't look at the carpet under artificial light when I bought it and I've found that it has a cold greyish pink heather tinge under artificial lighting which I don't like. I can't seem to capture this with a photo. I would like to bring out the warm brown shades in the carpet and am really stuck with choosing paint colours, I'll need a white shade for the woodwork and I'd like a warm neutral for the walls but not too dark. I've looked at little green rolling fog, clay, Portland stone, Joanna, F&B slipper satin, Wimborne white, schoolhouse white, shadow white, off white and more I like them all and I've tried a lot of testers but I'm still stuck.
Would changing the LEDs in the ceiling also help and does anyone know which lights would be best to use?
Any advice would be fantastic.

I love Egyptian cotton, my sister in law has it in her house, I did try it but it didn't work with the carpet, I really liked the paint colour but not the carpet! I have a similar colour in my loft room but unfortunately it seems to bring out the cold pinky grey in the carpet!

I know all of these paint colours, I feel your pain. I would suggest a warmish neutral that doesn't read as too green otherwise it would clash with the carpet. I would try two, 'Wax Myrtle' by Fired Earth and Stone 3 by Paint and Paper library. There is enough of a tinge of umber in these colours to warm them up but still read as neutral. Something like 'Pointing' by Farrow and Ball might be worth trying for the woodwork, again it has a dollop of red, barely detectable but just enough to make a difference.

In terms of lighting, we recently bought these Philips lights. They are 2700K and the best spots we have found, they dim to a slightly pinkish colour that warms spaces beautifully. More expensive that standard LED's but if you want a certain warm atmosphere, a good choice. If you want bulbs for lamps then Tala bulbs again read as slightly pinkish and beautfully warm.

thank you all for your comments. @Julie I forgot to mention that the children's art wall will be a mirror soon now that there won't be little hand prints all over it. This may bounce some light around. I was thinking of a warm sagey green which would work well with the oak wood but I need some drama!! It's funny looking at the pictures totally gives you a different perspective of the room. I now think I need to paint the front door in a pale color... @Judy I like the shade secluded beach def dont want blue - the tester pots were nothing like the shade on the charts... @Christine def agree re pops of color - baby's feet are going into another room. @ pcmom yellow would definitely brighten it up

Colour and type of flooring do you have? What's the light like in the space? What sort of style do you like I.e traditional, modern. How do you want it to feel - dramatic, light and airy, warm and welcoming etc.

You say you plan on having a toy area under the window. I suggest that which ever color of paint you choose for the hallway, make sure it can be washed easily. Children are hard on hallway walls.

Dulux Egyptian Cotton is a warm beige and in some lights it has the teeniest shade of pink. Slaked Lime is also lovely by Little Green and comes in 3 shades. First 2 pics are Egyptian Cotton and the last is the palest Slaked Lime (there is also a Mid and a Deep).

Hi BP,

All the listed colours are great!

Skimming stone and Cornforth White are great ones too.

Choosing/suggesting a colour to a written description of a carpet only isn't always going to work. But definitely a good starting point. Do you have a picture of the room?
