Hello can you help with how to brighten this room up, layout etc. Sofa has to stay all rest can be changed. Happy to lose tv too and use that area Photos not the best to show the room. It’s small, square shape. Two doors as shown and through space to kitchen.
I'm guessing that the floor is staying and so that and the sofa will determine the options on colour? I would perhaps start by painting out the panelled wall with a paler undercoat so at least you can bounce some light back in whilst you decide on what colour to paint the walls. Pure white needs natural light, otherwise it makes rooms look bleak and flat, I suspect this is what you are talking about. Sometimes, putting a colour on the walls may reduce the light slightly, but increase the 'life' of a room and so it's a win. This is not to say go dark but to add something warmer or slightly more colourful. It could be a barely there 'nude' such as LIttle Greene Hammock or LG Beauvais Lilac to bring some warmth in.
I think that grey panelled wall saps what little light you have. I like colourhappy’s colour choices, especially the slaked lime or maybe a very pale terracotta/dusky pink as below?
Is it possible to turn the sofa so it's back is against the wall opposite the window. That way you will get a pool of light falling into the middle of the room as opposed to the sofa casting a shadow from the window.
