We've recently been in the market for a heat pump for our new home. I've been looking around on a bunch of websites and found this place calledJL Philips which claims to help me get about £5000-£6000 off on the heat pumps. Well, I get a better discount on the Ground heat pump but it's also a lot of work. Can someone suggest which one I should choose?
You can get a £5k grant for an ASHP (assuming you qualify) or a slightly larger grant for a GSHP. But it’s not that simple….. a GSHP is more expensive to buy and install and that varies depending on how it is installed, and what the ground is like, and access and if you have to remove something to install it (such as your patio). A GSHP is supposed to have better heating results than an ASHP.
But there is no golden rule for making your decision- you have to try and work out the cost for your particular installation
This is a specialist market and your question is far too simplistic. We have an ASHP. Our decision was based on cost and amount of available space and disruption. I think you need to speak to installers for both. They need to visit your property and explain the disadvantages and advantages of both systems. Explain the cost and the installation process.
Lots of good advice on youtube from pros. Just be careful it suits your house as a lot of people are sticking with gas boilers because of the type of property they have.
I would also put this thread in the renovating section, not gardens as there might be better people on there to advise.
Good luck
