Tree/shrub to fill a blank space of a wall

Hi, does anyone have any ideas for how I could fill a large blank wall space between two windows on the front of my house? See pic attached. I'm already planning to plant a hedge underneath the windows as shown but not sure what should go above it. Currently thinking a tree of some sort, but not sure what species would be best - would like to have something fairly flat to the wall and not something that will take over the front of the house.

I wouldn’t plant a tree that close to the house as the roots could affect the foundations, and it could cause problems with getting house insurance. However I think a climbing shrub would look lovely. If you attach a piece of trellis to the wall then you could grow so many plants. Is that wall sunny or shady? A climbing Hydrangea is lovely and self clings to the wall. A climbing rose or Clematis Montana would also look good. If you choose a rose you could grow a small Clematis through it for extra colour. Star Jasmine is a beautifully scented evergreen climber. It does need full sun. Just a few ideas.

The trim in your rooms is outstanding. To "tie the rooms together", the one thing I would do is install chair rail the same color as the existing trim. The horizontal lines of chair rail will move the eye around the room and into the next room creating a flow. Chair rail is relatively inexpensive, easy to install and would be wonderful compliment to your existing beautiful trim.

fragle0 ... congratulations on the new addition to your family. Have been following your lovely changes. You probably won't have time to work on the decor for a while. Just wanted to suggest that you try pulling the nesting tables forward to be more in line with front of the chairs & placing your floor lamp to the back of them. This will give a bit more light at night for reading in that area.Also switching the plant by the fireplace & the one on the corner by the sofa.

Hi nick. Thanks. Yes, i have come to that realisation after being told it by everyone i speak to! So looking at hedging or other ideas for the side fences then shrubs / plants / flowers for the main parts. I'd be interested innyour ideas. On the other side if the fence, if you mean the road side, the footpath is right up against the fence. I'd say the footpath is maybe 1.5m wide, maybe a bit more.

Hi, you have a lovely home! I read through your thread, and I like Dar Eckarts suggestion above the best. I think because of the symmetry of it as an H shaped house is symmetrical, and it would also keep the space looking decorated but still open and uncluttered which is what an entrance should be. Sorry, but I don't care for the bookcase idea in an entrance. I also noticed the masks you have, and think it would be great to decorate the space using them as inspiration. Here is a photo to show you the kind of rug I think would work here.
