What paint to use ?? Stairs

I want to paint the iron spindles on my stairs gold anyone advice on best sort to go for I want a pale gold like the colour in the light picture .

Hammerite do paint for metalwork. They do many shades including a gold.

I love the reading nook, too. We had one in our old house, we called it our "Harry Potter cupboard" and the kids' toys had a home there. Love the open shelf idea, could also do floating shelves, drawer seating with a cushion (drawers giving storage) for the reading nook...oh the possibilities are such fun!

I am a fan of black as a disappearing colour! If the tha bannisters were painted black the Victorian look of cast iron would fit. The walls are too pale , would you consider a dark green( FB Green Smoke) under the rail, next to the carpet, and a much lighter version above( FB Light Blue or Pale Powder). Not really sure of the shade of green in the carpet, it might be more FB Oval Room. I am fond of the Pugin look but realise it is powerful and invariably used with very dark paints. We changed our ginger brown stairs, over 3 storeys to white. 13 years later the effort was not only worth it but the pain has subsided too!

I agree that with the strong carpet choice you don't need a patterned wallpaper. Instead consider painting the woodwork a deeper colour than the plain and pale walls for extra drama. If you particularly like the paper why not have it papered onto canvasses and hang it like pictures

Justine, in the case of a fire (probably starting in the kitchen) there must be direct escape (half hour protection at least) from the bedrooms in the attic to the exterior, it is not permissible to escape through a kitchen. The new stairs should be separate from the kitchen, if this is not possible then the attic should only be used as a study or play room and not a bedroom.
