Stain on microfiber sofa

I have (had) a beautiful Natuzzi sectional sofa that has ivory/beige microfiber upholstery. Someone sat down on it a few days ago wearing a wet bathing suit. There is now a large stain on one of the seats. The strange thing is that the stain is reddish, like wine or juice, but it was only water. A professional cleaner came today to try to clean it with water/alcohol/peroxide, but it actually looks worse and the stain is much larger. The store where we bought the sofa is gone. I don't know what the microfiber is made of. Any advice out there? -- Unhappy day ...

Very sorry to say but I think this is damaged beyond repair. Although it is "only" water damage, dye may have come out of the wet clothing and it would only take a small amount to discolour the water. I think your options are to either replace, recover the whole sofa or perhaps cover the stained area with a throw. Even if you were able to source the actual fabric used on the sofa ( it may be on the label usually attached to the sofa under the cushions) you would have issues with shade differences due to dye lots and fading etc. Could you claim on your insurance? Not really sure if that is ever worth it (increased premiums).

Best solution for me would be a big beautiful throw

That’s such a shame. If you have accidental damage on your Home Insurance you could make a claim. It may slightly raise the premiums for next year, but whenever I’ve made a claim it made very little difference. You could get it re-upholstered but that often costs the same as a new sofa.

Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Go for what speaks to you, but do it with elegance :-)

At the moment all your stuff is concentrated at one side of he room making it cluttered and bare at the same time. Pictures need to go at eye height, so maybe get a simple shelf built above the sofa at eye height for some knick knacks. Somehow your pictures seem very high up on the wall. You could cluster them together above the sofa maybe? You can still have your mantel but with maybe a better-selected range of bits on it. Agree that some shelving might be good in the alcoves but not above the line of the top of those pictures. I would have gone for a much darker colour for the walls (like navy blue) because the sofa would have blended in a bit more and it would look luxurious against the dark background. Plus dark colours give your stuff an instant quality upgrade. (I always say it makes my sh*t look like stuff) Sorry that's unhelpful as you've obviously made those decisions!!

I know you aren't buying from Sofa.com but their website is really good as you can play around and see what different fabrics look like on their various styles of sofa. I've found a sofa that is a little similar to yours, so you can kind of get the idea of what it would look like in a different shade. If you were to cancel the order with Harvey Normans, sofa.com lets you return sofas if you don't like them! Oh heck, I’d be livid. As the others have said either claim on insurance or recover. In the meantime place a throw over it to hide the damage.

Good news - we opened the windows near the sofa and are letting the sun “bleach” the stain. It is much lighter now. We will continue this on sunny days and hope time will correct this mistake.
